Double Dissapointment - Walther Lever Action and poor eyesight.

Its been too long since I shot my CO2 Walther Lever Action Rifle. Today I took it out for a spin and two things happened:

The first thing is that the gun has lost its power. It shoots but very weakly. It spitted two pellets and the third barely made it our of the magazine. Hell, I know that is my fault for not using it for so many years. (I stored inside the house in a gun case without co2 cartridges in, if you're wondering). I guess it must need new seals and whatnot. I want to get it repaired since it is my wife's back yard plinker. If you know anyone who can fix it for me please send me the information.

The second thing that happened to me today is that I realized I can't focus using open sights. I've been using prescription glasses for several years now but I never tried shooting open sights with them. Toying with the Walther proved that I can't. I was hoping that I could use the open sights of a new HW I have on order, but no. That means that the new HW will have to be scoped right away.

Can't help you with the Walther but I found these several years back and they brought back my ability to focus on the open sights but still see the target clearly. I am old now but can see as good as when I was in my twenties when I use the adjustable diopter. Says discontinued expect there is something similar out there.

Sorry to hear your rifle is not working properly. I hope you can get it fixed.

I also had a little trouble focussing on iron sights as I got older. I went ahead and made the device pictured here. I take it with me to the eye doctor (I don't bring a real gun even an air gun into the doctors office) and focus on the sights as the eye doctor changes the lenses until I get a clear sight picture. I got the sights for this off a broken air soft pistol.

...I see that there is a lot of stuff going on I didna know aboot, but I sort of did...

...at my advanced age I am having vision issues for a while now, but when I got my Varilux lenses, I was able to focus on the rear site, front sight and target in a way I never could w/o corrected vision...

...with careful manipulation of head position I can find areas of the lenses that allow a reasonably clear focus on all three elements at the same time, something I could never do when I could still see well enough to shoot effectively without corrected vision...

...I knew a guy who could never shoot scopes...he was too far sighted to focus on the eye piece...he would have needed a 6 foot eye relief...

...he would neve wear glasses though...

...I have the same problem creep up on me...but I got the best glasses I could find and bought them...I had to pay out of pocket because insurance would not cover the Varilux lens , too...

...there are only parts of the eye glass lens that will work with the scope lens but the blending of three distinct focal points make it possible to find a focal point with practice...

...this is much the same with open sights...I can't really see them anymore w/o correction but with a recant prescription I can see open sights well enough to shoot effectively…

...there is a good bit of hunting around involved but with practice it becomes minimal…

...I am talking IDPA shooting here...I was not winning any trophies or anything but I can clear a course with open sights...I was shooting a Glock 23...
