FX Dreamline Compact Tuning

I purchased a FX Dreamline Tactical Compact .177 and an Aztec scope from the classifieds. My primary use will be for field target.

With the rain, I have only shot a couple mags at sub 10 yards in the basement. It's a laser for that, but going to have to figure out what works best at more range. For now I was shooting Benjamin 10.5gr, but have a bunch of different pellets on order to try.

It came with the regulator set around 127 bar and I haven't changed that. I couldn't seem to get the velocity over 900 fps with any port/HS settings, which sounds about right for one spec I saw for 940 max which I assume would be with lighter pellet. I will document what I find to work for me.

Anyone have any suggestions on pellets and velocity and settings that work well for them?

I like to run my .177 Dreamtac with the regulator down to around 100 bar. Also note that there is an allen screw (I want to say it's 1.5mm but I can't remember, frankly) in the metal slider just in front of the hammer adjustment wheel that will adjust the hammer spring preload. I set the hammer adjustment wheel to max and adjust that screw to a little above the max velocity I want with my heaviest pellet. Then I can turn the hammer adjustment wheel down for lighter pellets if I want. I found that my full length Dreamtac doesn't really shoot well with anything over 13gr. Its a light gun and you really feel it if your pushing the gun. It does really well with 10.3gr anywhere from 820-925 fps. I also can shoot 8.4 and 7.3gr pellets by dropping the hammer adjustment wheel down (and setting the TP to low for the 7.3gr).
It's pretty simple once you know about that allen screw.

Yeah the real limitation is the short barrel. You will be sending alot of air to get up to speed. The 500mm barrel works better for pushing heavier stuff at a milder tune. The short barrel shines around the 700-750 fps for .22. I have a short .177 and had it shooting around 800 fps with 10s and it seemed to like that. I was around 110-120 bar on the reg.

Been fiddling and tuning on my Dream Tac compact for a couple weeks now. Mine is a newer @ 2 years ago old version with the 320mm .177 barrel and straight diameter shroud.
It came to me shooting AA 10.3's @ 880fps which took a reg set of @ 150 bar and power wheel maxed out. Needless to say pushed to its limits
Was noisy, poor shot count having a lot of muzzle blast and therefor jumpy when shot ... YUCK !!

After trying different tunes I came to a conclusion just not enough barrel length to get 10.3's at the speed wanted and doing so efficiently.
So ... Changed pellet weight to an 8.4 gr re-tuning the gun. Ended up with reg @ 105 bar, PW on 6 sending the 8.4's @ 900 fps for @ 15 fpe.
Now getting @ 70 shots on a 230bar fill, it is a LOT quieter and jumps around a lot less.
While mine is not for FT duty, ( Tho it could easy enough ) It was set up to be my yard & hiking gun and accuracy there was paramount. It shoots GREAT as currently set up.
My thread with mods done is here: dreamtac rework & mods

I spent a rainy day at the range Sunday but had a roof to shoot under. I was able to mark my parallax wheel for ranging and played with the tuning. Only have Benjamin 10.5 and H&N 10.65 to try for now. I have other pellets coming to test.
I am seeing the same as @Motorhead with the short barrel the 10.5/10.6 pellets top out at 900fps and a more efficient velocity is around 850fps. So for now I am shooting H&N Barracuda Match 4.51 10.65gr around 850fps and made dope for that. Not quite the power I was hoping for, but I will see how that does Saturday in a FT match and go from there. I expect I will turn up the power eventually but then I will have to do a fill during a match.

Used it for FT match on Saturday with the Baracuda Match pellets. Did kinda ok for a challenging course. Definitely need more time with it.
Sunday I tried out some different pellets. There was a light variable breeze most of the afternoon. I ran them through chrony at same setting just to see where everything was at. In the light breeze it was clear that the 13gr had a huge advantage over the others with hardly drifting. For that alone they may become my go to. After the breeze mostly calmed down I did a round of 5 shot groups at 20 yards, but that mostly showed me that I need to drop back to 30+ to get a better picture of how they group. But was time to go, so next time I get a calm day I will try again.
