Dropping doves out to 100 yards with my Impact

Back at one of my permissions to clean up some doves and starlings with my FX Impact MK2. It was shooting really well again with the H&N 25gr Gen2 slugs.

Bonus footage of a cat catching an injured starling I just shot off the silo.

Enjoy.

Max , more super shooting. Cat catch was cool . Last week when I got ten rats at my no. 1 barn , I had 4 rats lined up on the barn floor . A cat wandered over to them , gave them a sniff & sauntered off ! I got a video of it . Later after collecting a few more , 2 cats came to check them out and did the same thing:rolleyes:. Guess they're fed well. I did pop a mouse & a sparrow which they did accept before I left.

Had a cat where I worked many years ago. There was a big tree right outside the door that the sparrows loved. I kept a Daisy a Red Ryder close by. That cat learned the sound of the BBs shaking in the Red Ryder when I cocked it. As soon as he heard that sound he would run full steam and wait beneath the tree for a sparrow to fall to the ground. It was hilarious. That cat loved sparrows and doves but didn’t ever want any other type of bird.

Nothing I shot is for fun except paper targets or exploding potatoes. I shoot these pests for the farmer's sake as they steal grains and defecate farm equipments. I do headshots when I can, but body shot to the heart and lung is more effective at longer ranges.

Gotcha. Was just curious, because doves are so delicious.

I do head shots only because my primary target is yard dragons (iguanas) and body shots, even heart shots, often ends in an escapee crawling off somewhere to die more slowly. Though I will take a body shot from time to time if the iguana is far enough away so that I cannot retrieve it, and the only other option is to let it get away. (And there are a few neighbors around who will skin and eat iguanas if they are fresh.)

Yes, head shots on iguanas would be the perfect aiming target area. Good job.

@drsquall. Took me a while to set the lens up properly and learned how to adjust my parallax to get clear images. The scope quality helps also. Sideshot is expensive, but it is probably the best for now.

Alex,
would you explain how to do that?
It would help a lot of us. 👍🏼

Thank you!

Hey Matthias, in the past I had lots of footages that were out of focus after reviewing them on computer screen. The problem was my eyesight and also the type of scope I was using. Using the Element Helix for an example, it has a very clear glass and when I looked thru it, the target looked clear, but often times the GoPro lens "see" differently than my eye. Also, the parallax distance markings on the turret does not represent the true distance. They were there just as a reference/approximation.

What I ended up doing was to either use a large wheel on the focus turret and then label the distances on the tape of the wheel. I would focus on a target let say 50 yards, turn the focus knob to what I see as being clear with my eye, then check the recording on screen after. If the footage is clear, then I marked and confirmed the location of that "50 yards" on the tape. If I wasn't using a large wheel, then I just approximate where on the focus knob should be and tried to remember to turn to that spot.

It is just an approximation. Lots of factors to consider because the range finder might not have been accurate at the intended target.

Definitely not easy to find the exact location on the focus for each target distance. But hopefully thru trial and error, you can get it close enough. Lots of other videos with top shooters often have out of focus footages from time to time. So it happens.

Hopefully that helps. Cheers.
