FX DRS walnut stock refinish

Well, I've purchased the FX DRS 500/.22.
I've been interested in this "air tube over barrel" concept ever since I saw it announced last year. After decades of owning and shooting airguns of all types, I'm really liking the bull barrel "firearm look" of this rifle.

I wanted the Grade 2 Walnut, but couldn't find it in stock anywhere. Utah Airguns said there should be some Gr-2 walnuts coming soon, but couldn't really be sure when.
So, I decided to buy the Grade 1 from UA, and add some features myself.

I went with Ebony caps, with English Holly spacers, on the grip & forend. Installed a white lined recoil pad, and front sling stud.

I'm really liking this new FX platform, and it shoots as good as it looks, (to my eye). Typical FX accuracy, and only weighs 5Lb- 15oz, with this light scope.
To help achieve this light weight....
I drilled some large holes into the butt stock to lighten that heavy area up. (Actually saved 2.9oz with that). Also reduced the width of the raised cheek piece by 1/4". I kept the height the same. That gave me a better scope alignment, and also saved some more weight. The final task was applying four hand rubbed coats of Maccari Royal London stock oil, for a satin finish.

I'm using the Huma Mod-30 moderator, but only using the first section of the M30 to keep the rifle as short as possible. It only cuts the report by about half, which is acceptable for me. I don't have any noise restrictions at my home.

I wanted to share my excitement with this new FX rifle, by posting a few pics during the build sequence.
Anyone else done any customization to your DRS? Or other beloved airgun? I'd love to hear about them.
Have fun!!

When I got mine back in June, I kinda had the same feelings as you. Nice to have a gun that truly felt like a gun. I installed sling studs painted a cap then put the gloss to it. Planned to hunt squirrel with it in the fall. Then I just never shot it. It was very accurate and the speeds and shot count were just fine. But there was a stigma about the gun since I bought it that I just couldn’t let go of so I recently sold it.

Nice!!…great job..really dresses it up. John

Sorry to hear that Vetmx. If it doesn't feel right, for what ever reason, moving on is the "taking care of self" way to go.
Have fun.
In my case, because of the ton of guns I’ve owned from all over the globe and a bunch of Swedish made FX’s, I just couldn’t shake the fact that I might have paid a FX price for a China gun. I’m not saying it’s a bad gun, it’s just that I and other members of my family could tell it didn’t feel right when shooting along side of other quality guns. Close but no cigar. So I couldn’t shake that I may have been deceived.

So is this particular model built in China? You write “might have” and “may have” and throw out the “made in China” comment. Hence my question, how did you come to your conclusion?

M8 threads on the gauge was the first giveaway. No FX produced in Sweden ever had a M8 gauge. Their excuse for the initial guns, before the slip up was exposed, just didn’t cut the mustard. Second, was just shooting it along side of even a Dreamtac from 2021. The Dreamtac just had a more robust, tighter tolerance feel every time you cocked the gun. My spidey senses just kept tingling. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. Someone just has to prove it.

Very nice job ! If i were to buy another pcp this might be the one as i really hate the look of a bottle .

Here is my custom stocked DRS. I copied the grip of the GRS stocks the cheek pad of the DRS adding another 1/2” in height to offset the picatinny rail height and added some wood at the plentum in case a midsized plentum is ever available. Sort of looks a little like a Rigby rifle. I now have the large plentum with the two long chambers plugged. The maple wood is a soft silver maple and only added 6 ounces over the standard synthetic stock. The added weight of the moderator and the larger plentum helps with the handling of the rifle. I found the stock synthetic stocked rifle to be too light for my taste. It feels good to me now.
