Earning her keep! ( Updated)

I thought I would share the first pest taken with my new rifle. My parents and I have been having groundhog problems at our houses, which commissioned me for some pest elimination. It also gave me a perfect excuse to purchase a new airgun. I got my streamline .25 yesterday and did a little post in the PCP section, but it is always fun to share the first hunt with a new gun.

I was sitting 20 yards away ambush style, since I saw the hole he went into. It took about 15-20 minutes for him to come out of its hole. As I picked up the rifle he spotted me and paused for a second, which was his mistake.

I put a stick into the pellet hole to show impact point as an other member started some time ago.

I have to say, I am really enjoying the new rifle.

"crittahitta"Nice shooting Dave. Nice fat groundhog. Now we are gonna have a harsh winter. lol. Nice shot placement and I love your new rifle. Now that you have it sighted in and on full power...what FPS are you getting and with what pellet?
As requested I ran my gun over the chrony this evening and here is the shot strings.

I came home from shooting this morning to find the behemoth groundhog in my back yard. I have been holding off on shooting this guy till I had the streamline set up and ready.

He was taken at 50 yards on High power. He started back to his hole after the shot, but stopped after about 5 yards. I put two more quick shots in him to put him down quickly and humanely.

First shot hit him on his left side right below the ear.

I also weighed and measured this guy.

13lbs 12 oz
20.5 " long 27" with tail included
8 " wide as flattened out as he laided on ground.

The streamline is definitely earning its keep.

It feels as I am playing some sort of sadistic game of whack-a-mole, but with groundhogs. I have now got 5 groundhogs at my parent's house, which is in town. It seems that shortly after I get one, another moves in.

I was trying to get a problem squirrel, and put out some peanuts about 20 yards from my position. What I found was a large groundhog munching down on them. He ran under the neighbors house, which is vacant since December when he had a house fire. Luckily the neighbors are understanding about using an airgun to eliminate them. I just have to be more aware of whats behind my target. He finally came back out to get another peanut about 7 minutes later. Which I put one in the back of his skull and out the other side through chainlink fencing. He expired immediately with the head shot, and there was masive blood loss also.

I have to say I am really liking my .25 streamline. (Terilynn)
