eBay as a seller? No, thanks!

eBay has become a horrible place to sell. How anyone can sell anything on eBay for profit is beyond me. I sold a heavily discounted item for $189 recently, after the exorbitant eBay fees I barely cleared $100. WTF? And there's no way to remove a bank account from their system once entered. Your only option is to close your eBay account. I've had an eBay account for a long time. I've always maintained a 100% approval there. I have one last item on order and when it arrives I'm closing my account.

I sold an item on eBay. The money was on hold so I couldn't touch it until a buyer receives the package. Buyer asked me to cancel the order which I tried to do but I couldn't as I didn't have enough money to refund him. I sent a note to eBay: hey, you have the money (on hold for me) so use them to refund the buyer. Is it only me or eBay is crazy.

The buyer should have canceled themselves through eBag.

I've recently sold an air gun on eBay, but the first buyer requested a cancellation the following day. I was able to cancel and return his money promptly...no issues. Sometime eBay will hold the money based on the shipping method you choose. If you ship using eBay shipping, your money will deposit right away. If you ship outside of eBay shipping, they will hold your money until the buyer receives the package. That being said, eBay's seller fees are painful. Look for alternative ways to sell if possible.

Just found out for myself eBay is the devil. Sold a nightforce the other day by the time it’s all said and done I’ve shorted myself $200 and they are holding funds for 30 days. Lesson learned and burned into my soul.
I will no longer use or recommend them. Was going to use funds to purchase another impact from a A/N member but unfortunately it won’t be for sale after my 30 day screwing session. I wonder if eBay is making interest on my funds???

eBay is a scammers delight! I sold a high end digital DSLR camera on eBay heavily discounted to move, and I had a dozen high quality photos to show the details. A week after receiving the camera, the buyer claims he wants a refund, as he said the product was not as described, all because of a small scuff near the tripod mount. This is akin to rejecting car tires because they touched the ground!

I sold the product 'As Is', thinking that would protect me, but no, it didn't. Now mind you, the cash for the sale was on hold. I ended up being forced to refund the price of the product, but also the taxes the buyer paid!

They effectively got a free, 1 month camera rental from me! I closed my eBay account shortly thereafter.

I’ve had good luck selling a few guns on eBay. In the last 2 years I’ve sold 21 guns and not one person cancelled payment. In fact most payed that same day. I had one guy tell me he needed a week to make payment and he kept his word.

Selling airguns on ebay only makes sense for certain guns. Rare guns sell very well and fetch high tickets. Unwanted brands like hatsan sell for higher prices than they would on AGN where people HATE hatsan.

Airguns that can be bought easily from retailers and have a popular name will sell for about the same price on eBay and AGN. Better to sell those types of guns on AGN to avoid eBay fees.

Ebay only takes 30 days to payout if your bank account and card aren’t verified. Once they’re verified the payment is same day or next day.

Remember Sleazbay takes about 15% of your money and part of that is the total that includes the shipping cost
More and more sellers use sights that sell specialized items for sale and skip Sleazbay
Sights like, bikes and bike parts, cameras, binoculars, stamp collection, car parts, and of course Airgun Nation for airgun sale, that way you make the buyer pay the 3.2% for paypal or add it to the price.
Been a member of Sleazbay for 24 years but I always add 15% to the price and could give a sheet if the buyer wants it cheaper

I’m an eBay cruiser. I haven’t been unhappy with anything I’ve bought, but I’ve been disappointed in things I’ve sold. But having said that, I think it’s safer than buying something from market place unless it’s in person for sure. I’ve bought a couple rifles for very reasonable prices and been pretty happy. I’ve tried to buy off of here, it’s catch 22 at times, can’t buy without some good standing and can’t get good standing without buying. However, I may have a deal worked out in a couple weeks to get a foot in the door. It’s irritating to pay the near rediculuous fees eBay charges, but there is at least some protection with it. All in all, I buy off of eBay, but if I’m selling, it’s certainly not to make a profit, it’s more of just moving the item without straight up tossing it. Not too many Airgunners In my corner of the world so buying online is almost a necessity.

I have been selling on ebay for years with only two problems. They are both now blocked and cannot buy from me.

The worst story I've read about besides a guy keeping the item but returned a box of screws that had the correct weight of the item was a guy that would sue the people that he bought stuff from. Imagine just wanting to sell something that you don't use anymore and end up having to hire a lawyer. BTW, ebay backs the buyers story every time.

I'm curious - were you guys selling with a Buy It Now or Auction format? I thought with auction that once the buyer wins they are contracted to complete the purchase and can't just "Cancel" the order.
I don't think you can just cancel a winning bid, but you can ask the seller to cancel the order. He or she doesn't have to honor your request, but I've done it for a buyer on one occasion. If the seller chooses to not honor your request, and you decide to not pay, the seller can get eBay involved. You could potentially lose your account.

The direct bank link on used items really is a lousy deal.. First the person selling the item is looking to save money some times because they just cant afford the higher price of new.. The second problem is the seller paid taxs when he or she baught it to begin with. Its just cazy to have to Pay taxs again.. Surprised there hasnt been a bigger outlash at the new enforcement.. Crazy.. Crazy deal.. it goes against the REUSE REPURPOSE ajenda.... Dang they are crasy.. I dont sell oon ebay anymore or etsy.. just too high to make money after the fultures get done..

It gets worse too. Not only do they spank you on selling fees, and hold your $, but they now also report any cumulative sales of $600 or more to the IRS via a 1099 form. That means you need to pay income tax on what crumbs you got out of your sale(s). Better yet, I got to pay my tax guy extra for doing a business loss form for the Ebay (and Paypal Income reported) last year. I used to sell ALLOT on Ebay but that stopped last year when I ended up paying near 25% income tax on my Ebay "profits".

Yep, and we can all thank you know who for that.

And I find it particularly irksome that I have to pay tax not only on a used item, but the shipping as well.

I used to buy quite a bit from sellers on eBay, but once you factor in California’s usurious sales tax and the high shipping costs that are so frequent these days, it’s simply not worth it.

Gotta love it. You pay tax's on the $ when you make it. Put it in the bank and you get to pay tax's on the interest made. Then you pay on the $ when you take it out of the bank to spend it. Then you get to pay tax's again when you sell whatever now used item you paid tax's on when you bought the first time. Then someday, your family will get to pay inheritance tax on whatever little you were able to keep and leave behind. Somehow this all became the norm....

I remember when Slezbay started and you could contact other members and warn them of paying too much or other things like under cutting Slezbay's profits by making a deal offline but now they don't show other members info to contact them and they use special software that flags them that your trying to make a deal offline, but you can still beat them with speaking in code to the buyer/seller to get around it.
Been doing Sleazbay for 24 years and through the years I've been able to stay ahead of them in knowing work arounds if need be but usually stay within there rules, can you tell I hate the SOB's too
