WoW i just looked at a bunch of Air gun for sale sites and it got the impression everybody is using E-Bay to price their used guns .

I guess owners are entitled to ask whatever they feel is "right" for their goods. But, seriously, selling for 80% or higher than today's price for same new merchandise is ridiculous. If I purchase something used, in good condition, I'll pay no more than 50-60% of today's new pricing, or less. Guess you've re-opened the can of worms again!:)

I don't particularly care for online auctions. Every now and then I'll place a lowball bid and once in a blue moon I actually win with one. More often, I'd rather just pay the buy it now price if it is at all reasonable, which rules out about 90% of them.

I think that there have always been a lot of sellers out there that are either just looking for a sucker or have an unrealistically high opinion of what their crap is worth.

People, for the most part, think their stuff is worth more than its used value. Just watch Pawn Stars, LOL. I laugh when I see something in classifieds that has been renewed 10 times because it is a Frankengun that has been golden scredrivered. Or, I shot it 10 times, so it is really new. Price is dictated by what the market will bear.

I have recently got two great deals on Ebay, so I have a hard time bad mouthing the auction sites. One was an FWB 150 that was resealed/tuned by David Slade (which I found out after the fact) and the other was an FWB P8x as new at about half price (if truly new). So I still check out Ebay occasionally since I am still in the acquisition stage of my air rifle/pistol affliction. I have had great experience, however, with our own classifieds...

Check the completed/sold items boxes in the advanced search after an auction ends to find out what an item sold for (if it sold). You won't see a Best Offer accepted though. Add and subtract shipping cost, sales tax and eBay's cut and you'll get an idea of what people are willing to pay and what people are willing to take.

You can only be polite to a seller and try to persuade them to come down based on the cost of new or similar used. If they won't budge, move on or try again later but don't get mad at the seller. If you want it badly enough to be mad, BUY IT, you'll get over mad and you'll have the item to enjoy.

Having bought, sold and traded over a thousand used airguns over the last half-century, I do believe Ebay has definitely influenced used airgun prices; in my opinion, badly. Exhibit A- seems like the classifieds section of this forum overflows with the same 'ol-same ol'; over, and over, and over again. 😡

You'd think sellers might eventually realize they're overpricing, like after reposting the same ol' repeatedly for several months.🤤

Correction- I'd think that.

I'd personally say that if it takes more than a month to sell then the price is too high. What always gets me are the people here selling pellets or on ebay selling guns for more than the new price.
