EDgun 25 cal Short with Huma Regulator

I just received this last month. I was hoping the Huma regulator would enhance the gun's ability to shoot the 25 grain pellet. The hammer spring weight is not installed and the Huma regulator was set at 120 (The factory regulator was set at 130, but I never shot the gun with that regulator installed). I always fill to 3,100 psi (213 bar). This setting along with the HST adjustment did not give me 880 - 895 fps for the 25 grain pellet. I adjusted the Huma regulator to 125 and with the HST adjustment I have 31 shots that average 894.5 fps before dropping off. I was hoping for at least 35 regulated shots at 885 fps because that is what EDgun West got using the stock regulator. I also noted that the regulator gauge is at about 145 bar after shot 31 and the fps drops off at that point along with the bar reading on the gauge with each subsequent shot. Can anyone offer suggestions as to how I might further tune the gun to get more shots at this fps? I'm too lazy to install the stock reg and see what happens but if it is the only choice I have, then I guess I'll have to do this. I"d like to first entertain any suggestions before doing that. Also, any insights as to why the pressure gauge is at 145 bar when it drops off the regulator after shot 31? I would assume it would drop off the regulator at around 125 bar, the regulator's setting? Someone mentioned a faulty gauge? Thanks....

When you fill the gun what gauge do you go by? These small gun gauges are notoriously inaccurate and are there just to give you an idea of the pressure remaining in your gun. My EDgun gauge seems to read 12bar higher than it should. According to the gun gauge it comes off the reg at about 142bar (factory reg set to 130bar).

Why did you get a Huma I'm wondering? My factory EDgun reg works excellent.

Tweeter: I use Joe B’s gauge on my Guppy tank when I fill. It looks like I am about 5 bar off between the Guppy and the rifle’s gauge.

I got the Huma reg just in case I wanted to shoot the 34 grain pellet in the future. I was told that the Huma reg would be better than the stock regulator for shooting the 25 grain pellet as I could shoot to a lower bar setting which would result in a higher shot count.

What size 25 cal bull pup do you have and how many good shots are you getting off the stock regulator set at 130 bar? BTW, I had a single shot 25 cal Standard that I purchased in 2012/2013. That gun gave me 42 good shots.

I have a .22 R3.5M short and get 40 shots at 33fpe on a 200bar fill. 50 shots if I fill to 220 but I rarely do. Have you tried 130bar? I think that the .25 short as it comes gets 36 shots. I would set the huma to 130 and then find the the highest speed you can achieve by using the HST. Once you find the highest speed back it off about 10fps and should be good to go. This will also allow you to get a few more shots as the gun falls off the reg because you won't have that velocity spike.

If you have a regulator you can slightly overfill (ex. 3,500 psi instead of 3,000). This might give you the extra shots. Be aware that most cylinders (for safety reasons) have a max pressure of 5,000-6,000 psi. Giving it an extra 500 psi will not harm you or the cylinder. Because you have the regulator, it controls the air flow but adding too much extra air could override the regulator. I would only trust a good gage; go with the JB gauge. I would also check the JB gage when you have it filled. My gage on my compressor is the one I most value. My tank gage is about 500 psi off. Check your spread at this new fill pressure or if your POI changes you may have to back your fill off a bit.
