Edgun Lelya 2.0 or Mini Matador R5M, you tell me

Last week I received my .22 cal Edgun Lelya 2.0, from Edgun West. Beautiful compact gun and very accurate, but I don't know what to call it. Nowhere on the gun is printed Lelya, but instead has Matador boldly printed on the bolt block. I really don't care what model name is printed on the gun, just wondering if Ed ran out of Lelya parts and used a part from the Matador R5M, or if it's just how the Lelya comes now. I've done a search on the internet and noticed some Lelyas come as mine did and some come with Lelya printed on the bolt block.

So far it's been a great little gun. Have the Huma regulator installed, set at 103 bar, shooting JSB 18.13gr pellets at 857 fps, and getting 43 shoots before the gun goes off the reg, from a 245 bar fill.

Well I just got my Lelya 2.0. Serial #138. I can't believe how well it shoots out of the box. No problems. It is stacking Crosman 14gr at 25 yards (imagine JSB if those stack), it's light, solid....so pleased! 

Mine says "Matador" also.

What's the trigger like on those? Is it gritty? ... heavy? ... first and second stage? ... unpredictable? ... or does it break like glass? Just wondering because I have been seriously thinking about getting one, but I DO want a longer one.

Thanks! Trigger is good, crisp. It can be adjusted, but for hunting I'll keep it where it is. I'll show shot groups out to about 80 yards in the coming weeks.

Just spoke with Brian at Edgun West. He said in order to get the first Lelya into our hands (fill orders) they had to use the Matador receiver. Since the are the same gun, parts can be swaped. Think of it as only the first pioneers (with the lowest serial numbers) get the honor of getting the Lelya-Matador hybrids.

I’m stacking those 25.4g JSB Kings all day long at 55 yards out of mine. I actually detuned mine today from 850 fps down to 760 fps. The reason was to cut down on noise output and because I mainly use it at under 50 yards where 32 ft lbs at the muzzle is more than plenty for small game.

Nice looking and performing gun. Accurate for its size, but I don’t think we’ll see any Lelya’s or mini-Matadors in the finals at EBR...

Also, lets not kid ourselves about the trigger. Is it a solid functional hunting trigger? Yep. Is it very adjustable by the average person? Nope. Is it as good a trigger as most of the other high end air rifles on the market in the same price range? Nope again. I had an R5M, and liked it very much. But not nearly as much as the Vulcan I traded it for... However, to each his own...

Hopefully I don’t receive negative accuracy for disagreeing with Ed. I had an R5M. I watched the videos. I read and re-read the documentation.

As far as I can tell, and from actual hand on experience, there are TWO adjustments that can be made in the trigger area. I’m not talking about disassembling the trigger mechanism in the rear of the gun and gun-smithing the trigger assembly.

So one adjust is just to limit the amount over travel on the trigger after the gun shoots. This doesn’t affect actual trigger first or second stage at all. The second (and only adjustment that actually affects the trigger) only changes the amount of first stage travel. The actual first stage pressure and second stage break pressure are not adjustable by the screws near the trigger. So if it’s 2 pound break, that’s what you’re stuck with unless you gunsmith the trigger assembly. 

Ed’s trigger schematic he posted only shows what I described above. Perhaps if he posted a schematic and procedure for adjusting the actual trigger break pressure he could say that it’s a fully adjustable trigger? In EDguns defense, it is a fairly good trigger that only has a small amount of creep before it breaks. However, it’s not even close to a Taipan or Cricket trigger in feel or adjustability.

I find the post quite accurate. No negative accuracy warranted at all

I would only add that my experience with the adjustment procedure coupled to a good cleaning and lube with Archoil AR 8300 of the sear gives very good results. It is a simple trigger, quite precise, predictable and completely functional. I did not like the difference in first stage tension between the R5 series and my R3M so I did change the spring on the R3M...

I adjusted the trigger on my R5M and it is exactly as Centercut explains on what can be adjusted. Stock settings the over travel was excessive so I fine tuned that first. The second adjustment that changes the 1st stage travel is a little tricky and you must use caution when adjusting because it actually moves the trigger sear before you feel the beginning of the second stage. Basically if you adjust too much, the hammer can release before reaching the second stage. Also the trigger weight feels like it is mostly in the trigger spring assembly and the only way I can see to adjust weight is to loosen the compression spring on the turn buckle which personally I don't want to touch because it is ensures that there is pressure on the trigger sear. Overall the trigger adjustments are pretty lacking and IMO it is a good hunting trigger, not a trigger for putting down record breaking groups on paper.
