EDgun Matador Premature Firing

Just got a Matador 25 cal R3 with the 9-shot magazine. Sometimes when I push the bolt forward , the gun misfires as the pellet is inserted into the chamber. I do not think I am placing excessive pressure on the bolt handle as I push it forward. Prior to this rifle I had a single shot 25 caliber Matador that I purchased in 2013. I never had this happen with that rifle. Has anyone had similar experiences with their R3M?

Is the gun new? The trigger sears were fetcing up on each other and sticking when my matador was new and it made the trigger pull very unpredictable. A hair trigger onew minute then very heavy the next. Not sure if this is your problem but if you try putting a dab of moly in between the trigger sears it may help (it cured the problem i had and kept the sears from sticking so they could engage fully each time). Another thing may be that the trigger adjustment screw is turned in too far making the trigger so light that the sear isn't engaging enough to be safe. You can trying backing it out 1/4 turn at a time and see if that helps.

There is one more thing that might cause it. If you take your stock off and look at the trigger linkage you will see a small nut and a spring. That spring is what pushes the sear into the firing position when you pull the bolt/hammer back. If that nut comes loose (pretty common) it may cause the issue you describe though most of the time it seems to just make the gun unable to cock completely.

These guns are as simple as it gets just work with it a bit and you'll get it. Mine needed a few minor tweaks when it was new but now that I've figured it out it is one sweet shooter! Good luck!

If the trigger adjustment screw doesn't work try lightly lubing the sears ( I used moly paste). It won't hurt anything or void your warranty. I was scratching my head for over a month before I found a long forgotten post on another forum where somebody said to try this and it worked.

Edit: Just want to add that I borrowed this picture from google, it isn't mine :)

One of the symptoms my gun had was the trigger pull was very inconsistent and felt different each shot (depending on how much the sears decided to engage each shot). Also after lubing if your gun won't cock just back off the trigger screw until it does. Mine needed 1.5 turns out. I'm done now, hope any of this helps:)

Tweeter: Thanks for the picture and advice. I’ll check on the nut, lube the shear and adjust the trigger pull. Come to think my about it my bolt became extremely hard to pull back and felt very gritty on the pull back. I was told that compare to the “buttery” pull of the single shot the magazine version would feel gritty. I think I’ll check if the nut worked it’s way loose first. Thanks again.
