EDGun R5M cocking/indexing?

Guys... before anyone overthinks this, We don’t need to discuss mass, inertia, momentum induced by empty vs loaded mag quite yet. The issue described is one of mechanical interference when pellets are not seated. I can tell you that there are very small differences in the id of the magazine chambers from hole to hole and from mag to mag... especially if one uses multiple brands of mags. Couple that with the variation we see in skirt diameter and the issue can be real.

I simply squeeze the skirt of the pellet and the forward section of the mag till I “feel” it seat.

Bull butter. I won’t own another EDgun with the current aged and sorry excuse for an indexing system. Done.

In my post I referenced “the issue being described”. Perhaps this will help folks understand what I was saying. Improper seating is a real issue for some. That’s all. Just trying to help folks out. First picture pellets are fully seated. Second picture 3 pellets are not seated and will likely have mechanical interference as the magazine rotates. Third picture is a closeup of where the interference will happen.

I am an admitted fan of EDguns and have no reservation about it.

Fine by me, Joe, that you are a Fan. I am too, however, only for EDgun single shots. What perturbs me is that folks keep suggesting that simple ish is being overlooked and that’s why these problems occur. That’s a bit insulting to say the least. When you purchase an $1,800+ PCP it should work correctly. When it doesn’t, most explore all options and try all different techniques and variables to remedy the issue.

Seating the pellets correctly was not the issue with R3Ms and R5Ms indexing that I have had in my hands. I mean multiple examples.

Im glad so many have good working mag systems on their Eddys. There are just as many, unfortunately, who are not as lucky. It shouldn’t be a crapshoot! Daystate, Taipan, Kral, Benjamin, FX, Evanix, Hatsan, Airgun Technology, Kalibrgun and many more have a better mag system track record.

I did not mean to insult anyone and never would intentionally do so... much less publicly. Clearly some folks have experienced jams and “indexing” issues that are directly related to seating pellets in the magazine. I simply want folks to understand this so they can enjoy their rifle. I have not experienced the issues that some have with other issues. I am not saying they don’t possibly exist. For whatever reason I just have not seen them.

Again, my post was specifically about the pellet seating issue. You may be surprised at how many folks leave the tail end of the skirt hanging out the back of magazine.

Sorry for coming off as insulting. I promise it was not my intent.

Mods to the Mag system? Darn Right!! What are the odds our posts will even be noticed by Ed and will motivate some improvement?? I too have owned a significant number of other PCPs and with all except the Leyla I didn't have to 'Learn How To Load a Magazine." Of the four PCPs, Daystate, Taipan Veteran, RTI Prophet , and the Leyla, the one I would least likely, now, would like to sell would be the Leyla. Next I would keep the Veteran. The RTI is a little longer than I like. Just getting to know the Daystate but it's a Freaking Heavy tack driver.

But that's the joy. Think I would be less pleased with the hobby if everyting was fine and ducky. However, that miserable Leyla, for such a simple problem, had me ready to sell it for parts.

versus
The subject is irrelevant, but I would like to ask you whether EDGun R5M can be within 100 yards and 1 inch? I am considering whether to buy
There is also Lelya's accuracy, I have considered both

Short simple answer is yes. If you haven't watched Steve's review on the R5M Standard in .25cal, take a look. Skip to 14:35 for the 100 yard shooting if you're impatient but I would just watch the whole review if you haven't.

Oh, there is no doubt that Ed reads and notices these posts. I’m glad you like the Lelya and pushed through.

I know if my R5M had the issue I'd be pissed. I wouldn't be happy paying that money for the cocking to have issues with indexing. Like Joe I haven't experienced it in the 3 I've owned but know that it must be a thing if both Derrick and Mike have experienced it. What's the reason behind it? Idk I can't say. I have had one issue where with slugs they backed out while shooting and caused an indexing issue but that's all and was clear to see the cause.

Okay. This happened to me recently. When you take it apart, you have to cock it first. If you do not cock it first, and take the back 4mm screw out first, then pull it back, the gun will jam, or get stuck. If this happens there is a chance the indexing arm will get slightly bent. When this happens it will not hit the groove in the magazine and spin the mag. Just take that part off and (gently) flatten the arm out straight. Easy.

I've been having indexing issues with my R5M and decided to take a look at the indexing arm (as suggested by davidsng above) for straightness. I went to remove the pivot screw and found a broken o-ring under the head of the screw. I replaced it with a new o-ring and that resolved the indexing issue completely. It's an odd place for an o-ring but it does have an impact on the magazines indexing properly. Not sure if this is what other folks are experiencing, but I thought I'd pass along what happened with my gun.

I bought an aftermarket eaglevision mag after the dealer told me my 5 mags were to blame. It works with the EV mag. I never did get any replacements for the bad mags I bought. 3 extras and the 2 that came with it. I don't even want to know how much those mags were. They worked at first, but soon started failing. I spent over 2 grand on this dream bullpup, and hours and hours trying to diagnose and make it work with advice from the dealer before I finally gave up and sent it in, in disgust. I feel sick just thinking about it. You know who's never failed me? That's right, my trusty Veteran. Don't get me wrong, when it runs the r5m checks almost all the boxes for me. When it doesn't run I feel pretty robbed.

Same. Although my .25 will not shoot heavies -regular or mk II's for Sh^t without the violent "blowback" of air in my face mentioned previously. I have plastic and metal mags-same thing with the heavies--makes me mad cause I'm hearing good things about them but the air in the face is too much!!

Experienced the puff of air in the face today shooting JSB Exact Match Diabolo King Heavies out of a Lelya 2.0. I was wondering what was going on. I did notice that the JSB King Heavy MK IIs fit better in the metal mags. The skirts on the original JSB King Heavies seem to be a bit too wide and made for a tight fit once the mag was loaded. The user manual is pretty vague. Reading these posts helps. Wasn’t sure if it was because of something I was doing wrong. As for the indexing issue, experienced an indexing issue or thought I did. Turns out I’d inadvertently flipped the switch that stops the mag from indexing. Most likely it happened when I reached for the safety while trying to keep an eye on my target.

Its sad to share here that one of my friends bought R5M in .25 standard and it neither shoots accurately beyond 50 yards nor cocks and indexes the magazine with some acceptable convenience.

Neither 25 grain nor 34 grain jsb pellets work good.

25 grain indexes a bit better but not good.

If we increase hst the cocking and indexing becomes even worse.

At least my friends are not going to purchase any product of Ed again.

The friend has also contacted Ed on live question answer session but did not get satisfactory solution.

Now neither it can be sold for good price nor it can be used.

Any detailed guidance will be helpful for the owner.

Bhaur
