EDgun R5M Matador STD .22 on slugs.

I have resisted touching my new-to-me .22 Matador cause it has been shooting the 18.1s so well. Yesterday I tuned for slugs and wow...

Huma reg is at 132 BAR on the tester. I was able to dial up the NSA 20.2 grain slugs to 940-945. I backed it off of the plateau to 920+/-.

This AM I went out and shot 1 5 shot group. 1st shot is after sitting overnight. I wanted to know🧐 Pictured below is my back yard with a target at 120 yards. There was a breeze in my face so I added 2 clicks of elevation to the Strelok solution😔 Still not too shabby for day one on this tune... especially with me on the trigger👌

I added a sound byte too with some voice for comparison. I am really enjoying this today.

Great job Mr. Nielsen 👊

Very nice! You mentioned the tone of the shot changing from pellets to slugs. Can you include a recording of a shot with pellets for comparison and/or a brief description of the change? Was thinking it might have a lower tone on slugs compared to pellets. Also any idea of how many shots you get at that power level? Thinking about getting a .22 or .25 R5M so I've been looking for as much as info as possible.

To tell you the truth, I've had my R5M Standard .25 for 2 years and haven't done enough testing with just pellets and using the factory regulator with no adjustments made besides a few turns on the HST. I could purchase the Huma regulator with the bigger plenum but until I have the time, longer range, and variety of slugs/pellets to test, I'll stick with the factory regulator to test out first.

That is a wonderful group with the NSA at 120! Does that make you want to stay shooting with slugs!? I have a RAW HMx LRT .22 that I have tuned to shoot 18gr pellets @ 950 and on the same tune, NSA 17.5gr @ 930 and NSA 20.2 @ 900. Mostly target shoot with the JSB but, if I had your back yard range, I think it would be NSA everyday! LOL! Beautiful Edgun and wonderful back yard range! Nice photos.

I installed single orings for slugs on all my .22 magazines today. I intend to leave it on slugs for a while exclusively.

Since this post I have had a couple conversations about the EDgun magazines and slugs. For sure ED designed for pellets, but you can use slugs and use them reliably... magazine fed. First off I recommend the oring replacement that was posted by another EDgun enthusiast. Replacing the dual oring with a single #13 will add some resistance to the slugs. Secondly, be sure to seat them fully so the oring is resting on a flat spot on the slugs. I have found that if I block the exit side of the magazine with the meaty part of my finger tip then seat the slugs till they touch my fingertip blocking the exit I get reliable performance. I fully intend to make a slug seater in the near future, but this works.

This is what the mag looks like with slugs seated this way.

Just a brief update. When I switched to slugs, I did thoroughly clean the barrel and pulled about 30 patch’s with JB bore paste followed by addl cleaning of any residue. Seasoning shots were those over the chronograph to set the velocity to less than 98.5% of peak at 132 BAR on the Huma w/plenum.

I have now gone through over 600 slugs without any noticeable change in performance at all. The NSA .217 20.2s are coming out at 920fps and continue to provide ragged hole groups at 40-50 yards and 1.25-1.5” at 120 yards.

I wish someone would come up with a speed loader / seater to quickly load and seat slugs in a .22 ED magazine🧐 I did make a hack tool that works. But a 3D printed loader / seater would be sweet.

This gun is making waiting for my Leshiy2 a lot easier👌
