Edgun R5M ping...

What a difference two months make. I ordered a Huma from Edgun west. I broke out the chrony and started adjusting. Maxed out the hammer spring tension so had to go back in the tube. Read something on here that 34 grainers were using Humas between 125-130bar. What the heck, 130 it is. Shooting with the stock UNSCREWED I was able to quickly up the tension for 905ish fps. Zero distance was pellet on pellet and later hunting was spot on. 


Now for the unexpected update No Ping!!! I do remember it during my tuning but wasn’t paying enough attention to it rather the chrony numbers to know exactly when it vanished. But I’m damn glad it’s gone!

Yeah, the ping on my R5M went away after around 1000 pellets through it using the factory regulator. No adjustments were made to the regulator. Only the hammer spring tension. The only sound I hear now is described as a "tink".

Yes, that hammer strike. But I am so psyched that big ping went away. Maybe if I just shot it more it might’ve went away on it’s own. But I am glad it was sooner rather than later.

I know it’s an old thread but I had a long battle with the ping on my R5m as well. Having scoured the forums I figured out it’s a harmonic tune thing. At a certain amount of hammer sprint to reg pressure it goes away.

Anyone got a fix for this? Got her zero’d in and had the ping ringing in my head after shooting! Don’t understand, I’ve had an R3 single shot and never had anything like this.

I have tried many ways to reduce that sound I have a R5M long in .22 caliber, first I fill the cavity around the hammer with silicon, but nothing changed almost, the most effective way I found is to change the regulator to huma set it at 110 Bars also I add some weight to the hammer around 7 grams of copper hold it with rubber ties that really change everything , I was able to reduce the hammer spring tension and still can shoot the 21 Grains H&N slugs at speed of 950 FPS with acceptable noise

The ping on a lot of guns, Turkish in particular is down to the valve spring resonating and can be cured to a degree by making a delrin spring guide and using an O ring under the spring seat, however most of the time this will require the hammer spring tension to be increased unless you can use a shorter or softer valve spring.
