Edgun R5M Questions

I always wanted to try an Edgun and the sale at the end of the year pushed me over the line. The rifle arrived yesterday and I'm very impressed. I am not sure where Ed is getting his wood from but there is a lot of figure in the Walnut. The only things I would suggest at this point is better documentation on the EDMU and closing the fill port before shipping. I needed to hunt around a bit to find out how to turn the EDMU on. My issue with the fill port is that the styrofoam packing material generates a lot of confetti during shipping and it is not a good idea to get this into the fill port

Now for my questions:

I noted that a few folks bought the Eagle Vision magazines. Did they work well?

I am curious what kind of finish is used on the stock? It looks like boiled linseed.

Ed did make one change I am assuming because of reports of poor battery longevity. My EDMU would not turn on so I took it apart. There was no battery installed. I bought a couple at a local store and was able to get it up and running. Today while putting the packing material away, I found a supplied battery under the bottom Styrofoam. In any event, the gauge works but it is difficult to turn on without a lot of pressure with the face plate installed. I will figure this out later.

Well while fussing with the EDMU to get the button to work reliably, I lost the 3mm ball bearing on the fill shroud. So the moderator needed to come off to install the new ball bearing. While putting it back together I noticed the exit hole on the moderator is at 5:30 versus 6:00 or right at the bottom. It seem like something went wrong with the moderator install so I pulled it apart again. It appears install was correct since the barrel is in that location. Is that where it is supposed to be? Hopefully, the scope rail is offset also.

The more I looked at the barrel alignment, the more it bothered me. See the marked up photo below:

The 107 degree angle is measured from the flat on the scope rail through the center line on the barrel nut. I'm thinking that angle should be 90 degrees. This means the barrel was tensioned with the barrel nut rest rotated a full 17 degrees counterclockwise from the bottom. What do other RM5 owners see on their rifles?

Loosen, square and torque to 12 ft/lb. Hold square while you torque. Your barrel is being held out of alignment as is. 

Look at all that styrofoam dust, Ed. It sucks!

Mine is not zeroed as well.

Simple fix as suggested by ZX.

Forget the dust. Ed needs to address the ping upon firing. It’s louder than the shot by a mile. Mine gun is shooting at 45 ftlbs with 25 gr jsbs and it is the quietest gun, minus the ping of course, I’ve shot straight out the box. That is my only complaint for an otherwise perfect gun.

When I looked at my rifle last week, my barrel offset was the same as your's pictured. I adjusted mine to set the barrel at dead bottom. I assumed that my gun was just a goof up at the factory, but now seeing that multiple guns have the same offset I'm wondering if it is done on purpose. Hopefully Ed himself will comment on the issue.

Hi All,

I don't mind adjusting a few things like alignment of the shroud and some dusting. With my R5M the Styrofoam had been melting into the side of the walnut stock. That cleaned up with some careful application of solvent. What bothers me more is that it looks like the gun was worked on with a washer or something between it and the table.

This R5M must be a fluke. The Lelya I just got was absolutely a work of art! The cosmetics on the Lelya are perfect. I really like the little "U" shaped pad at the rear to get a good cheek weld. How ironic as the R5M is my yard plinking toy and the Lelya will be used primarly in the field hunting. Overall I'm happy with the Edguns.

It just seems like the location of the "rest" could have been fixtured for ease of assembly.

these were made a year ago , the entire barrel is too small it was more like a 243 then a 250 ,

i tried to tell brian barrel was messed up back then he said it was on my lelya is like .003 larger at choke and breech , this is why ii had made barrels ,you know with a pellet is shot well , when shooting into water and recovering pellets the heads are deeply showing rifling with any pellet , unlike any other edgun which may only ride skirt and just touch head with marks , this gun , really was too tight entire barrel , but even with a barrels i did on my lathe it didnt shoot slugs as I expect it to ,

I just looked at barrel i had on last and the unit is not aligned, I had this issue with my lelya on reassembly one time , I am grasping at any straw to get this to shoot slugs well lol

i am sure this wont help it ,

you know I made a tool for my lelya with 2 1/4 rods and a 1/8 medal and migged it to rods , sort of like this thread to align ,

I will try it upon assembly ,and next week this will be my gun or ill set it out at 100 yds for a target if it gets me pissed ,
