Effects from pellet exiting barrel impacting POI and groupsize

Jimmy, Yep AZ openened up that barrel band so everything is free floating. He also custom made the air stripper and moderator for that barrel and gun. I can pm you his cell number if you need it. I don't have the gun close, so I can't measure, but I'd estimate the full shrouds length around 17" from tip to that center band with the last 4-5" being the active stripper section.

Air strippers are a totally different animal then muzzle brakes,
muzzle brakes use directional ports to reduce recoil or muzzle flip (more so on a PBs),
either one ( muzzle brake or air stripper) can change the barrel harmonics because of the added weight to the end of the barrel,
the adjustable tapered cone of an real air stripper, will strip some of the muzzle blast from behind the exiting pellet
and adjusted correctly can usually improve accuracy
i don't use them :)

Strever, is correct in that not every (target) shooter thinks they add anything to the mix.

Fine, I have never suggested that they were a Special Secret Sauce for accuracy :)

An Air Stripper is used by many top target shooters however & the Physics appear to add-up to a positive - pick the bones out of that.

Sharroff has a 'bastardized' version of an air stripper (it appears to me) in that his is almost fully covering the barrel as do many that purport to also offer sound deadening.

A standard Air Stripper has only one purpose and it's 'body' doesn't move (once screwed on to the barrel).

The Cone (the part that I'm referring to) acts as the main air stripping unit and it's separation from the barrel crown (distance from) is the important deciding factor.

Nice write up Sharroff -
but what I've found with the Thomas -is that it doesn't like anything hanging off the end of the barrel -
I've got a Rowen Engineering Steyr air stripper just lying around -decided to install it on the Thomas to see what difference it would make -
I'm having lots of difficulty using a suppressor on the Thomas - doesn't seem to matter what Brand -
and it's my belief that the can or stripper hanging off the end is changing the Barrel harmonics -
the Rowen stripper caused constant poi shifts - throughout the 25 Bull card -
same as having a Huggett or Neil Clague at the end -
Neil is working on a barrel weight to move foward and back to see if this changes the barrel harmonics -thus allowing the use of a moderator -

Jimmy - you can get an air stripper from Rowen

Frank, Yeah but at 17 inches long....... Sharroff's air stripper covers almost 70% of his 24" barrel?
The Rowan stripper only slides about 1.77" onto the barrel and is about what 6" or more in total length? So in fact you have more weight hanging off the end of the barrel as you say, than you do along the length of the barrel like Sharroff's longer stripper. Sharroff's stripper acts as it's own barrel weight?

Ck,

The stripper/flip compensator is quieter than a naked barrel, but not by much. It might make the crack sound more hollow than sharp, but I wouldn't have any real noice reductions goal for it and I would not spend money on it if that is what I wanted. It still has a real bark. That's why I had Allen make me the moderator for indoor / backyard practice. The stripper is for when accuracy matters more than noise

Th other thing I will throw out there is that I have a heavy, stiff, 24" barrel on the Steyr now. Your mileage / accuracy may vary on the Thomas barrel. I wasn't pushing these in my post, just showing how poi and accuracy changed so much at 20 yards based on end on barrel. Ok, disclaimer out there.

Jimmy, yes, that long piece definitely adds to rigidity. It does not screw onto the end of the barrel. It tightly slides over barrel and has 1.5mm Allen bolts to clamp its to the barrel. I thought about the Rowan, but AZ was pretty confident in his design. Based on the pellet lube dripping from the last 2-3 holes (only 200 or so shots) and 1/4 " results dropping to one hole for 10 shots, I know it is functional.
