Perfect. Pretty much my plan. Have a ground hog doing some serious damage to my neighbors foundation.
Also would love to do some night rat control at a friends farm.

Hopefully the ability to record is nice. Hopefully can see pellets and how they travel to the target

@BABz58 Realistically speaking it will be good if you can see your quarry and POA clearly, the build quality is satisfactory for long-term use, the screen holds up, and it doesn't throw too much light into your face. I think that the record function is a plus. Hopefully its not a cheap feeling unit.

I have one with a screen also (big THANKS Revoman! ). Works well enough to see even small prey in the dark. The downside is having one's face illuminated by light from the screen when all else is dark.

I have taken over 100 rats using a similar setup. Switching illumination to 940nm made a big difference, rats could see the 850nm emitter and reflection with it's faint purple. 940nm is a very faint red at emitter only. Focusing beam is also very good. Solid saddle/tripod is a must as you cannot use a conventional hold and view screen.

I have one of those and you point out why it is painfully adequate.

- POA yes, but quarry depends on how well I illuminate it, not too much, not too little. I thought I could go walking in the woods at night and see the critters but all I see is leaf glare or nothing. It will only work adequately when there is a clear sight lane with just the right amount of illumination.

- As long as I'm gentle with it; if I drop it the scope is fine but the camera and screen fall off or get out of whack.

It is blinding, even on low brightness. I wear sunglasses so my night vision isn't completely trashed. The screen is also too close to the face to read if the gun is shouldered, so either it has to be reconfigured with the screen mounted out toward the muzzle or the gun has to be rested.

- Never used it. The recordings would be an embarrassment.

- It is a cheap security camera, in a cheap tube, with a cheap screen and cheap illuminator. The sum of the parts still feel cheap, but then again it was only a hundred $ and change.

I don’t expect a 129.00 purchase to compare to a 750.00-5000.00 night vision unit. I just need it to work good enough for long enough.
Long enough for me to see if night vision, recording, etc are something I want spend substantial money on.

Have a similar model I bought 3 yrs ago and it's held up fine. The only part going out is the ir tail cap switch, but so far the rest of it has worked flawlessly. My only modification was making a bushing to help limit the damage to my scopes from the grub screws out of a PVC fitting. It struggles a little image wise during twilight, but that may be because it's on an el cheapo Barska scope. Mainly pop rats and mice eating the feed left from the chickens. It's definitely cumbersome so I also only use it rested. Usually have the scope set on the lowest power until I find my target then zoom in. I have a feeling you're going to enjoy it!

Sounds like you’ve got your money’s worth out of it.
Have you now moved up to something of better quality? If so, what was your next step up?
As a side note. As you mentioned the scope.
The better the scopes view, the better the picture on the monitor will be.

Definitely! It's gotten it's fair share of use, and worth every penny I paid.
I haven't upgraded yet, but have been eyeing the DNT Thermnight for the last few months. With all the predator traffic we've had I can probably convince the SWMBO it's necessary
