Element Helix or Athlon Argos Gen 2?

Athlon Argos Gen 2 - I feel the 6x24 is the best scope value available!

I have two Argos Gen 1s and two Argos Gen 2s. The crosshair is thinner (but not too thin) in the Gen 2 - it’s pretty much perfect at higher magnification (18-22x) for target shooting dime sized targets at 50 yards.

I picked up an Argos Gen 2 on Amazon for about $310 on a sale a few months ago.

I also own an Athlon Midas Tac 6x24. The glass is better than the Argos, but it’s pretty negligible at airgun distances. The reticle on the Midas Tac is almost too thin. I think you are better off with the Argos Gen 2 and the saving the money from the higher end Athlons. Also, the reticle on the Argos is illuminated, it is not on the Midas Tac.

My experience with Element is not good, but I may have had a defective unit - as it failed a simple box test - did not track.

I believe the lifetime warranty on Athlon is regardless of the owner- if you sell it, the new owner can send it in and Athlon will honor the warranty.

I believe all Element scope warranties are also owner transferable.

I have an Athlon Altos FFP and it is a very nice scope. I don't own a Helix so I can't compare one to another.
But, I suggest anyone who is looking for a scope in this price range to take a look at Arken. I recently bought one and after I tried it I ordered a second one a week later. Honestly it's better than anything else I own, including Athlon. I have no connection with Arken, but when you find something you think will benefit others, you should pass it on.

Is your "wow" for all the Athlons or particularly for the Helos BTR? Thanks.
I only chose them because they are the few that focus down to 10 yards. My first was the Midas and I found it’s optics to be exceptional, so I didn’t want to stray too far down in their line. Also, I stumbled on some great prices on Amazon that I couldn’t pass up. I’ve never seen them repeated, but I keep checking. BTW, this Helos has a 34 mm tube. Very bright with illuminated reticle, but heavy. It’s taken me a long time to understand all of Athlons models, but this is where I’m focusing for my needs.

Yes, the Arken is one heck of a scope too and about the same as the Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2. I bought the Helos because I found one for $464 and couldn’t resist. Niw I have both.

Thanks for the input. I will check things out. Because I like and generally trust Matt Dubber, I may have joined the “Element” trend too uncritically. S7

Thank you. I will bear this information in mind. S7

Matt Dubber, don’t forget, has a close association with FX. While Matt is knowledgeable about airgunning, he only speaks of FX guns. Element scopes were introduced by FX. The only way you can make an educated decision on scopes is to try them yourself. I don’t own an Element, but my good friend owns a couple of Helixes. They are ok scopes in their price range.

I know Matt uses an Element scope and obviously with great success. But as someone else pointed out he is sponsored by the mfr. and I assume they provided it to him. I'm not questioning his sincerity. I'm just suggesting that there may be better alternatives for the same price or less. Look up Arken scope reviews on YouTube from people who are not sponsored by them.

I will do that. I believe the line is, in fact, partly his. Thanks. S7

I have both, Element is SFP and not a bad scope but the Athlon at this price point is overall better. Glass, Turret's, and eyebox. I think the element zero stop is a better setup. My Athlon you have to shim with washers for a zero stop.
Got it. I have so little experience with scopes that it is hard for me to personally picture (no pun intended) some of the particulars. To do that I would simply need to peer through more scopes and fiddle with the turrets. Thanks. S7

To do that I would simply need to peer through more scopes and fiddle with the turrets. The zero stop is something I see as important. I do look at YouTube videos and some of the camera shots are excellent, but they are not a substitute for looking through the glass and putting one's eye to the scope. Thanks. S7

I recently installed an Element Helix on a FX Wildcat III and the elevation peaked out at 33 yards. Element Optics USA advised me to purchase adjustable rings. I thought the 20 MOA scope rail on the Wildcat was supposed to eliminate the need for adjustable rings. Any thoughts or advise?
