Elements Optics Helix vs Vector Optics Veyron

Hi,

I am researching scope options for my next rifle and I've sort of narrowed it down to these two options (both of which are available here relatively easily).

I'd like to know though, that is the Helix really worth twice the money of the Veyron ? And one technical detail that I cannot find the answer in the specs, is the Helix reticle etched into the glass like the Veyron is ? 

I currently have a Veyron on my rifle so I know that is good, but I am considering something that would have a larger lens.

I know nothing about the Veyron, but I can tell you that I like the Helix so much, I now own four of them, and previously purchased nothing but Hawke’s and Vortex.


I just ordered a new RAW 1000X chassis rifle and ordered it with a Helix FFP. I am fully confident that the Helix will serve very well as a 100 yard scope.

It depends, If you don’t use the turrets then the Helix isn’t worth the 2x the price, Veyron’s glass is excellent for the money. I owned 2 Veyrons and 1 Helix and I now only have 1 Helix mainly because of the turrets.

I have the Helix and a Titan and a Hawke sidewinder, The hawke def. has some advantages and you can see why there's a price difference but tbh I love the Helix just as much and If I had 2 Helix and my Titan for my airguns and firearms I would not be upset. The Helix is great glass and those turrets are nice and crisp the only thing I wish Element came out with was 1/2 MOA clicks on their turrets I am not a huge fan of 1/4 MOA but that's not a deal breaker for me. I was always told in Marksmen schools to keep it simple and multiplying up at 2 Clicks per MOA is way easier than 4 Clicks haha

Thats my thoughts on using the Helix Element series. I can say I cant compare the Vector Veyron since I havent used it, I actually don't know if I heard a lot about Vector, a lot of guys I know in the Firearms use Schmidt and Bender, Vortex, Nightforce... My dad was a sniper for 25 years, and still in the army just not as a sniper anymore I think he used Schmidt and bender and Leopold optics.

I have multiple Helix scopes and a Hawke 30 FFP. The Helix scopes at ($400-480) have a zero stop. The Hawke at around $750 has a funky little window thing to try and see into. If you use the turrets, a zero stop is very helpful. At it’s price, usable turrets with a zero stop (good glass too), the Helix is a bargain.

The scope is actually intended for a 17HMR rimfire. It has such flat trajectory, that I do not expect to be using the turrets that much. However I still hate turret caps, those would be a deal breaker for me ;-)

I have the Veyron on my FX Dreamline, and I don't see anything wrong with it. If the turret stop is the only plus item for the Helix, I am not sure it's worth 200 euros...

Nothing wrong with the quality of the Veyron turrets, they just don't feature a zero stop. I now need to understand would the zero stop be useful for me, at the moment I do not know that. Any help in this understanding would be appreciated.

The way I understand it, a zero stop is important when long distance shooting. If you are not long distance shooting where you are likely to turn the dial (likely up) more than one full revolution you will not be concerned with guessing the number of complete revolutions of the UP turret to get the number zero on you turret to coincide with your original zero distance in yards or meters.

On my zero stop scope I have it set below the zero, so as to dial in one direction of travel past the zero then back up to it, but do not really use it s intended even though I dial a lot for long range shooting. Honestly, I don't find that it is worth paying all that extra money for. Most dials have hash marks indicating the revolutions traveled, or can be marked so you can see where the zero is.

On scopes with zero stop, I do the exact same thing, go down to a soft bottom and back up to zero.

First, I have a Veyron 3x12 x 44 on my Taipan Compact Vet and it does very well for the task it is assigned to do. Also, I owned a Helix “gen 1” SFP and as far as I was concerned it was a waste of money for the price.

However, from what I have heard the “gen 2” of the EO Helix FFP is a definite step up from the SFP. Joe Cyclops endorses the Veyrons and the Helix FFP but not the SFP.

From the input I have gotten from a YouTuber I know familiar with the said if you want a Veyron only look at the 3x12 and 4x16, the 6x24 blurs out at the upper range, so look elsewhere.

The Gen 1 Helix SFP had crappy turrets, although Joe did not say so until the Gen 2 FFP came out. As far as I know, Joe has not reviewed the Gen 2 Helix SFP. Can you post a link? The turrets on the Gen 2 SFP got the same turret upgrade that the FFP did. I have two Gen 2 SFP Helix’ and the turrets and glass are great. I would buy a couple FFP Helix’ if I could get them with the clean reticle. I’m not a fan of the dirty reticle currently on the Helix FFP, it’s too busy to me.

Okay, I can’t find the quote from Joe, but I think it was in the 186 comments on his video. However, I do remember a post here on AGN that was hard on the gen 1 Helix, and Joe chimed in, then Matt Dubber did a defense of his scope (expected), but as Joe said. To the credit of Matt and the group, the listened and improved the Helix scope.

The gen 2 SFP got the same turret upgrade as the FFP, which came out after the SFP Gen 1. His criticsm of the Gen 1 did not appear until his praise of the FFP. In which of the two videos was he telling the truth? No surprise Joe would talk up the Veyron since he got cozy with Edgun West who sells them. They look like an OK scope, but for good and cheap I’d just get another Discovery, but only from Charlie at Airgun Optics Plus.

@cmatera Alex from air rifle activities does speak highly of the veyron for the money. I got mine from Francisco and I honestly say I agree with Alex, it is a good scope for the money.

Interesting. The Veyron I have is the 4-16X44, but now I was thinking of getting the 6-24X44. But if that is not as good as the two siblings I definately need to research some more. Do you have any sources on that ?

Leaving the paid YouTube reviewers out, the OP has personal experience with the Veyron, albeit not with the higher magnification 6-24 mag range that he desires. It seems the question boils down to what are his options in the 6-24 range, if the Veryon in that magnification range is to be avoided as you say, and the current line of Element scopes is more expensive due to having features he does not need or want. More research is definitely needed and must include the availabilty in his country. He can choose any scope he wants, but if he cannot get it where he lives it won’t help him much.
