Energy Glass Ceiling with 22 cal Fx Panthera ?

I have a new Fx Panthers 700mm 22 cal. This is new experience but from powder shooting from my past boat-tail must have need most accurate... so ATP 22 king 40gr slugs are a no brainer for what is the best for long-range slugs. I have been looking for best tune for your 22 40gr kings. So far from my limited shooting (200 slugs shot) that 890-905 fps (72-74 ft/lbs) seems best and to push harder (increasing reg. pressure and or hammer hit) are both less accurate and less efficient with air. It seems to be a glass ceiling to ATP king slugs. Just checking to see if this "Glass Ceiling" is similar to your experiences?

My Anschutz and CZ 457 22lr rifles push a 22lr 40 gr at 1040-1050 bullet (100 ft/lbs). It maybe impossible to reach these 22lr energy levels (ft/lbs joules) with Fx Panthera and slugs. Just asking important questions for expectations.

Yes. All those Altaros slugs, the .22 Kings 40 gr, .22 ATP Smooth 32.3 gr, .25 ATP Smooth 49.5gr, and the .25 Queen 60 gr., were designed around 850 to 900 fps. More than that can reduce consistency and accuracy, plus reduce efficiency. And really, why go faster?

Ref Settings : ATP 40 gr slug "kings" BT, Reg 135-140ish, macro wheel 13-14, micro wheel 2.75 = 890-900 fps

The P700 likely has the power to push 50 grains for 90fpe but the twist rate might be insufficient.

Hello After a message from Altaros, the main limitation is barrel twist. As I recall Fx P700 is 1:16 in 22. Altaros has good luck (40 gr Kings) with near 1000 fps with 1:9 twist which FX has not made available. Yet.

I would think that the Altaros 40gr Kings would be good with a 1:16 barrel. The 1:9 barrel would be a better match for the Altaros 67gr .223.

scotchmo, the Altaros 22 40g King-s like 860-900 in P700. The feedback from Altaros is that faster twist will give 40g more stability past 900 fps. It would also stabilize heavier slugs 45-55g but for the lesser 40g the ceiling with current P700 is 900-ish fps.

sounds like you need a heavier hammer weight to get those speeds up, you'll use more air tho.

I can easily go faster without 8mm hammer striker (which I have but no need to install) or without higher reg pressures. The only problem is at current config. of P700 (twist...) the ATP 22 40g kings going past 905-910 the accuracy falls.

I just received the Altaros 6.35 Kings, they are too large for my TJ 1-14 25 auto barrel. Wiped the driving band out and that makes way too much friction for my needs.

I think I used 5 or so. PM me if you want a cheap route to test them.

It seems the projectile has a glass ceiling for accuracy but the gun can push harder…

I received some 22 ATP today. 40 gr,32.3;&31 gr. Custom veteran long 700 mm cz barrel. Its shooting the 40 at 895. Bc is .19. It’s shooting moa at 100 &150 yds. the 32.3 are shooting moa at 917. Bc .15. I’m happy

I have a LW barrel coming in 25 to put on another vet and a 800mm fx barrel to try on my 22. After shooting today I may not need the fx barrel

Ok. I have the fx 800 mm on the veteran. No increase in fps. It has one power plenum and I added a second one. No increase in speed. Shot a few groups at 106 yds and accurate as the cz barrel. Don’t see any benefits yet.
