Entry level PCP

...what are you planning to fill the gun with...???...

...the Umarex Origin with a decent pump sells @ 350...it is getting good reviews...

...the new DAR 2ed Gen rifle is $299...that is getting good reviews too...

...there are a number of good rifles in that $$$ range these days but those two stand out IMHO...

...or just wait until Odoyle post and do what he says...

Just keep in mind that you’re going to have to have a filling option. Hand pump is the cheapest but is more work. Air compressors are expensive. You could go with it Benjamin Maximus. The usual price is around $180 but there are places that I heard that have them on sale. Midway did but I don’t know if they’re still on sale or not. But the 22 doesn’t quite do 1000 FPS. The 17 caliber will though. There’s a lot of people liking the dynamic rifle called the DAR. They just came out with a second generation of it. Benjamin maximus was my first PCP air rifle and I bought a Chinese $40 hand pump and both of them are still going strong after three years. I’m gonna tell you right now that although there’s a lot of experienced people on here, but they’re going to start mentioning rifles that cost much more. It happens every time somebody wants to get a starter PCP air rifle. Everybody has a budget, but everybody’s budget is different. Some of these guys don’t mind spending 2000 or more on an air Rifle, and have many of those expensive Air rifles. I’m not one of them for sure. But you can get the job done and have Just as much fun with a lower price air rifle. And since PCP rifles don’t have any reciol you can use any kind of scope you want on it. You could go with a lower price when it first and then Upgrade to a better one later.

I know what Odoyle Will recommend. I myself like the idea of the DAR. But he’s been telling a lot of people to get the maximus that are new to PCPs But are on a budget.I agree with both myself. I’m Probably gonna end up getting a DAR before too long. I would already gotten one if it wasn’t for me buying 4 guns in two months just now.

...LoL...I thought you were agreeing with me...

...that Cayden is long and heavy but it points pretty well...it feels like a traditional rifle...

...it is a little awkward because it is so long, especially if you stick a big can on the end...

...the POI is stable and different size LDC's do not seem to affect POI...the barrel band is solid...

...the Cayden sounds like a base ball bat when you thunk it...thread jack off...

I knew that Cayden was on the heavy side but So is the Akela.Maybe I’m just not used to shooting bull pups.

...oops...!!!...I meant to post this...!!!...

...$135...!!!...I am tempted to buy one to actually carry around...

...but it doesn't shoot @ 1000 fps...

...they are different...I have eschewed them so far...

...I did nearly buy an Ataman BP17 but methinks that is over the budget here...by $1000 or so...

...also is dosn't shoot @ 1000 fps...

You don’t need 1000 FPS. Especially not at 50 yards. More velocity means louder and typically more expensive . 800 FPS more then enough in 22

I know nothing of the rem 777 but maybe a little better springer might be more suitable? Hand pumping I think would get old if you do much shooting. If you are just going to pop a squirrel or rabbit on occasion no problem. I some times shoot a 100 or more shots at a time and believe me you don’t want to hand pump that.

Everyone wants to spend less and get more no matter what your budget is.

Hi,

I recently bought a break barrel Remington 777 SB, but there is just so much recoil that i can't get good groupings at just 15 yards. Could you recommend a .22 PCP that fires at 1000 plus fps under $300 that i can use to take head shots on rabbits/squirrels at 50 yards?

No. There is no .22 PCP that fires at 1000 fps that can take rabbits/squirrels at 50 yards. That is primarily because pushing a pellet that fast is almost certainly going to give you poor accuracy.

What you want in a PCP is something that shoots a .22 pellet between about 825 and 900 fps which can keep all the pellets in a ten shot group on a dime at 25 yards. There are a number of good guns out there which will do that. Now with a PCP you are also going to need to pump the gun up. That's going to add to your cost. So you are either going to need to increase your budget or look for a cheaper rifle. Also when hand pumping you are going to want a gun which has a smallish reservoir so that it is easy to pump it all the way up but which still gives you ten or more good shots before you need a refill.

There you go. That rifle will develop about 25 foot pounds (plenty of juice for squirrels) and with a bit of TLC will hold a dime at 25 yards. You are still out an optic and you'll be wanting one if you are really interested in head shooting squirrels at 50 yards. Look at the Leapers UTG "Bug Busters"...

Alas, that is going to push your budget out some again.

...no, don't buy that...!!!... buy this...!!!...

...IMHO is is absolutely the best current value...you will not necessarily out grow this rifle...

...keep the power up and shoot heavy ass pellets to keep the velocity in the accurate range and smack those tree rats...

...everyone sees other rifles they want no matter what they buy...
