Entry level PCP

...smooth side lever VS clunky bolt action never mind all the rest...

...then there is the issue of accuracy...both guns have......reputations...

...I would get the Origin and hope it is not a leaker...

...it seems to avoid the issues it's Avenger sibling is having...

...no regulator is looking better alla tyme...

...I have looked at that storm rider w/o pump in the recent past but didn't get to the point of seriously considering it...

I am in the PCP club/group, but you might consider a recoilless springer. You WILL pay the $$$ for it, but some people recommend the RWS 54.

No pumps or compressors necessary.

Having said that, I have never shot any recoilless springer and went to PCP because I like hitting my target consistently. Unlike some, I don't find that to ever be "boring".

For me, PCP makes it much easier to eradicate the pests which are my targets. I only shoot paper to zero/check zero.

If pellets were free I might shoot more paper... (chuckle)

p.s.

I shoot .177 exclusively out to ~35 yards. That used to be out to ~60 yards until I got a new neighbor who built a privacy fence that blocked my longer distance pesting.

And yes, I was able to make DRT kill shots at 60 yards. ~750fps/~12fpe with CPUM 10.5 pellets. Accuracy/precision (shot placement) is the key.

22 cal at over 1000fps for under $300? Dont think thats happening, unless you mean with alloy super light pellets. The only reason you would want to go that fast would be with slugs, and Im not aware of any gun even close to your price range that will push them that fast.

If you want a gun that will head shoot a rabbit/squirrel at 50 yards (1" group), basically pick any $300 gun and buy it.. they'll all do it. Gauntlet, Avenger, Origin, nova liberty, the list goes on. You need like 4fpe for rabbits and 9 for squirrels, they all have double to triple the power at 50yds.

Hi,

I recently bought a break barrel Remington 777 SB, but there is just so much recoil that i can't get good groupings at just 15 yards. Could you recommend a .22 PCP that fires at 1000 plus fps under $300 that i can use to take head shots on rabbits/squirrels at 50 yards?

You have a great question and here is a great answer I believe. I have had one and know it to be true.

If you can buy a Benjamin Maximus for $135 at midway. Why would you not? The bug buster scope a good idea. Too. Hand pump or YH compressor Good to go.

Enjoy your search.

I recommend the Benjamin Maximus because it has a no brainer FIVE YEAR WARRANTY and can hit a nickle at 65 yards and easy to hand pump at only 2000psi fill pretty much anyone can pump it unlike 3000psi or worse yet 4000psi guns (OMG!!!) it's pretty difficult to pump past 2400psi IMHO you are not gonna want to enjoy shooting after pumping at those higher pressures from being too tired from pumping besides you can buy a cheap 3000psi scuba tank to fill it too. Your Wal-Mart Yong Heng with 4 year protection plan should last a long time directly filling only to 2000psi and filling that 3000psi scuba tank as well.

If you really wanna spend $299 instead of $135 and have a harder time pumping then the DAR Gen2 is probably gonna last the longest because it has an improved poppet valve seal compared to the Avenger and Origin and Freedom and Aspen and Liberty which have already been prone to premature failure and leak and only have ONE YEAR WARRANTIES AND MADE IN CHINA and are NOT the PP700SA or a Beeman P17. I don't know the statistics on failure so you might be lucky but IDK it's your hard earned money and you pay out of pocket shipping and insurance and wait time for warranty which adds to your total cost of the $299 price tag every time you send it back for warranty.

I have Benjamin Discovery and Maximus guns that haven't given any trouble over the course of many years now and that's why I can recommend them with good conscience but not the Benjamin Fortitude though that I had leak issues with and my Maximises were more accurate too without regulators which wete real head scratchers here.

I can't recommend guns with a history of bad reliability issues even if I do own them.

If you don't buy the DAR GEN2 nor the MAXIMUS it's probably best to lower the power and regulators to their minimum to extend their service life.

PCP shooting 1000 FPS ? Using Hollow Points you risk the pellet turning around and coming back at you.

Wha??? LOL!

If you have spent anytime reading posts on the off topic forum you might not laugh. Not saying crazy horse is NOT kidding but I’ve read some “stuff” over there that guys believe that is close to being as incomprehensible. And of course they think I’m just as crazy so DON’’T LAUGH. Ok go ahead an laugh just don’t be surprised if one of our own conspiracy theorists pops up and tells how if happens to be true. Laughing ( but not out loud makes “them “ mad.) 😀

Written as a sort of an I dare ya to the far right .

It’s a sample size of one, but I’ve had a pre-production DAR in .22 cal for almost a year and a half now and it’s the only air rifle I’ve ever used for that length of time with no need or desire to open it up. The one exception was I polished up the trigger group.

It does okay on squirrels at 50 yards too:

How about SPA/artemis M10/M11 or M22? Tick all your boxes.

This is my M10 slightly modified but cost of gun is under 300$ and this 22cal is pushing 150+ joules. Its doing 90joules out of box by just increasing hammerspring tension. No extra parts just simple error free PCP with total 3 o-rings that can leak.

Yes now its need to be said it all depends about shape of the projectile where it gets to transsonic area. Diabolo shape tends to push air into supersonic/transsonic speeds alot faster than the projectile is actually getting to those speeds. Therefore you should stay far away from those speeds when using diabolo shaped pellets + the dragg generated by that shape will drop in speed superfast anyways so just no point crossing that line where you start to get stability issues even. Bullets, slugs w/e you want to call them is whole another story but lets just say bullet shape dosent move air around its surface as wickedly as diabolo shape dose so therefore you can go alot closer to supersonic speeds and deep into transsonic speeds without issues.

...for me the effort of pumping is mitigated by the effort of finding/paying for pellets...

...if they were free and more readily available I would want a compressor...

...it is a real PITA to pump up the tiny air cylinder on a 7 shot AP16 to 4500psi, but I have shot a lot more pellets at "nothing" than I ever did before, and the 12 shot Cayden has just made this an order of magnitude worse...

...it's much larger tank only goes to 3000psi but it takes a while to fill it...at least this slows the consumption of pellets some...

Don't fill the Ataman to 4500psi. You WILL EVENTUALLY LEAK. 3000psi is fine and safer on the seals. Less stress on your hand pump as well as body and mind.
