Epic Epic Airguns Two arrived

PS: More shed work today, it now have a functional roof, that we will get waterproofed in the days to come.
Tomorrow however i have to go to my little sister and do the good big brother thing, CUZ you know,,,, family first.
Are you going to use isolation in shed?

CUZ you know,,,, family first.
Yes, you won't get a warranty on them 🙂.

Yeah they will test new barrels for me on the new 60 M range, and then send to me.
Dunno how fast this will be but plenty time to spend on shot shed, and i can always whip out the old faithful Maverick, even if i am a bit bored with it, it will put lead on the targets.
Epic do admit to not having cared much for the .177 / 4.5 mm caliber, it is less than 5 % of sales, probably like that with any brand of airguns.
I would also upgrade to .22 / 5.5 mm in a heartbeat if it was made more easy to do, BUT i am not taking a hunting licence to buy a airgun and i have zero plans for going hunting or shooting powder burners.

I said to them, if the feel best about a CZUB barrel i would be okay with that too, i did go for the LW barrel to be able to shoot heavier stuff once in a while and it was said to be the one then, but TBH the CZ also aught to be able to do that.
Main thing though is to be able to shoot 13 grain slugs, Zan or JSB KO, i would hate if it only liked the much more expensive NSA slugs.

The CZ barrel in my Vulcan 3, always liked more lead brands and models than my Maverick, but it do not shoot slugs as well, CUZ i think going to pressures needed for that is above the harmonic range on that " little " rifle.
It is not bad but at 86 Meters is is hanging by the hells of the maverick, which are not half bad with a barrel 170 mm shorter.

25 - 50 M and the Vulcan do quite fine with pellets.

Yeah this is not the way to get started i was hoping for, but it is what it is, and fortunately i and Epic are able to deal with it in a adult way.

At least this time i have overruled my incessant " i can fix it " mode and brought in the seller / maker, unlike my Maverick experience that sadly was unpleasant long as i did go solo on that.
Now i hope i dont get slapped for again mentioning my FX maverick woes of yesteryear.

The tracking on the GLS package with the barrel said " unable to automatic sort this parcel " so i guess its done by hand.

Which i find strange, as it is a pretty normal shape and weight.

Barrel in foam, strapped to wooden plank a FX barrel came with from Huma, outside of that plenty of foam, and in the ends 60 mm foam and 40 mm styrofoam, there is no rattling of the content.
Barrel also still wearing its shroud / tensioning gear for maximum support.
Plastic end caps glued / stapled and duct taped in place.

GLS will have to try hard to mess this up.

Hopefully you get your new barrel soon! keep us up-to-date.

Ok guys, got all my things sorted. I was able to do a decent amount of test before posting. All the issues I had were not coming from the gun itself. Still do not really understand why this behaviour is happening and to be honest is not the end of the world because I’m not interested at all on shooting paper.
Something weird is happening here: since I got my hands on my Epic two .25 cal I could not make it shoot accurately, no matter what kind of slug, reg setting, Vo I tried. Shooting it on paper at 50 m all the groups were like between 2 to/5 cm with both barrel ( CZUB and Lw), the Chrono was showing 6 fps in between shots in the worse case, I tought the culprit was the barrel being too close to resevoir, touching somewere due to the vibrations but...hell no... it was not case. Lost my sleep because of it... but then suddenly I changed my targets, using a wall as my point of aim. Took 5 shots at 130 yard with the Zan 41 gr at 980 fps and boom! 5 shots stacking! Back on paper, 12 gauge groups again, back on the wall at 100 m 5 shots on top of each other.
This strange thing happens everytime I use paper targets not on steel, nor on something else. I just had few cases were the 35 gr with Cz barrel performed good on paper but that's it. Now I'm very happy, the Epic two with the Lw barrel digests Zan slugs very well almost at any speed/weight. The Czub barrel loves lighter slugs like 30/35 gr
Using Titan 5-25x56 Element scope

All the 12 gauge groups on paper were shot at 50 m.
The groups on the red wall were shot at 85 m with the Zan 38 gr .253. First shot as poa then 5 shots group
The group on the grey wall was shot at 100 m with the Zan 41 gr at 980 fps and it’s probably the best 100 m group I ever had.
Shot another one great with the .253 Zan at 980 fps at 107 m in the wind having all slugs stacked
The Lothar Walther barrel is awesome, definitely loves oversized slugs as the Zan .253 but still have to try some custom Zan .254.
I will update you with the results as soon as I can
Really pleased today

Thats odd, but Im glad to hear your happy with its performance.
Why on earth would the POI change, going from paper to "wall" ?
Was it simply an optical illusion?

Asking you guys what it could be?
Still do not know what the problem could be but I’m truly impressed how The Epic Two digests almost any weight and performs awesome even without looking for tune. Just fill up the mag, crank the Reg up to achieve the desire velocity and send slugs down range.
Zan 45 gr - 958 fps at 200m

I really want an Epic 2. The design is great, simple solid and feature packed. The trigger and valve design is awesome. But I'm just not seeing the accuracy that is should be doing. I'm so temped to buy one and put a free floating .22 Lothar choked Poly barrel on it. Easy job for me. If you've got a set up that can deliver the velocity you need and the extreme spread is tight like this one has the only thing left is projectiles and barrel. I hope you guys get them straightened out. And if I get one I will post on it.

What do you mean with “I do not see the accuracy that is should be doing “?

To me The Epic two is embarrassing how accurate is

@Esab shooting mine i was also going along the thoughts of " it seem during the winter break i have lost the ability to shoot "

I did however also shoot at steel, in the form of metal roofing plates, and that did not change my success i have to say.

Epic have been beating on my barrel, or at least a LW barrel, and have some improvement at their new 54 M range, but it is not impressive i have to say, it look more like what i would like to see at 80 - 100 M distance.

But it is better then my scatter gun groups.

Monster redesign Pellets do better at same.

Next weekend look to be nice, weather, well at least Saturday, Sunday too nice low winds but then have a little rain forecast early and late in the day.
I will build more on shed on Tuesday, and then bring my Maverick next weekend CUZ i dont think Epic will have solution in my hands by then.

Also fine, just " repaired " a little on the Maverick, and i might do the STD barrel VS Heavy barrel comparison to get that out of the way.
Set up a little HOT with MRD pellets, should go a little slower with slugs.

MAV again able to shoot a "flat" string, still a little " hickup " which i think is in the hammer chamber or pipe if you want i think some oil might have gotten in there, so i will look at that tomorrow.

Naturally i look forward to getting on with the Two, but TBH shooting the heavier slugs, as a result of the twist rate on this and all other .177 - 4.5 mm rifles, well probably never be a success.

I have contemplated starting a vote in here to see how many would buy / get a new 4-5 mm / .177 rifle if it seriously was able to shoot heavier stuff, in a attempt to lure barrel makers into doing something for us .177 / 4.5 mm slug shooters.

The ammo are already there, but i have no ides how they can sell it CUZ i have only seen a SA guy shoot heavy 20 gr .177 caliber well, everyone i know myself included have dropped those heavy weights as it simply will not work for us.

I think those slug groups looks great for a new barrel...!! there'll be room for improvement over time. Epic send you those pictures?
Daystate have good .177 barrels. And now they come with a .177 and .22 711mm slug barrel for the Alpha/Delta wolf release this month. Ive ordered a Alpha Safari .22 with slug barrel.

Yep Epic have done some testing and sent me loads of pictures and videos.
Yes Daystate barrels also not too bad with the lighter slugs, but i dont think they will handle the heavier ones, but for sure proof that LW barrels can shoot tight groups with LW barrels.

New Daystate barrels in pipeline is a step up also in .177 / 4.5 mm, though still same twist rate, so also not sure those will sling the heavy stuff well.
Most " specialists " seem to agree that with current TR of 1:17.7 or 1:18 you will not get heavy stuff to fly well.

I have seen someone in here say you would need 1:12 twist rate, but not sure if that was a educated guess or something pulled out of the human exhaust "pipe"
