Quick math question I ran 18 shots with my maverick with the highest shot fps at 941 and lowest at 912. So that equals a 29 fps extreme spread?

To get the percentage I divide 29/941 = .03% extremes spread? Am I doing this right?

Yes, to get the ES you simply subtract low fps from high fps. I don't know what % you are looking for. The generally accepted practice is then to calculate the Standard Deviation which will give you the statistical amount of variation of that shot string. A low SD meaning the values (fps) tend to be closer to the mean.

That's .03 which equals 3% ; not .03%

run a full bottle ( useable shots that is...) across the chrony. the bigger your data set is will make the AVG, SD/AD and ES more realistic.

IMO 18 shots from any gun is too small a data set

Ok thank you for clearing that up guys, and I will definetly be running a full bottle theough the chrony as soon as I can.



One more question does using cheap pellets (crosman hp) affect the es?

Yes, most of the time you will get different E.S between the pellets from different manufactures, usually cheaper pellet are less consistent, but remember one think pellet with 20 FPS E.S can be more accurate than pellet with 5 FPS E.S. Good luck with you journey.
