Ever Zero a Scope on One Gun, Remove It, Mount it on Another Gun, and Have Virtually Identical Zeroes?

So the Athlon Helos BTR Gen 2, 2-12x that many of you have probably read me say is a "meh" scope for me has been sitting for months. I'd zeroed it for use on my Benjamin Bulldog M357 and decided that I didn't like it and I particularly didn't want to use it on that rifle. So I broke it out this weekend and threw it on another rifle and didn't have to touch a thing. Using some of the same ammo it was just about spot on. I didn't touch the turrets.


Anyone ever experience this? Can anyone explain how this happens?

@Struckat A lot of people do which is largely why I bought it. I'm not in love with it. Maybe if it were a 3-15x or something I don't know what it is, but it just doesn't do anything special for me. I like it better than my Veyron 4-16x FFP IR. Anyhow, I just started using it again because it was laying around and already in rings. I loved not having to adjust the scope and banging away at 50 yards from the first shot.

No. They've been close but never the same. Most surprising because of the platforns was a scope moved from an FX Maverick to a Benjamin Airbow. It was close enough to be on the bag at 35. @Ezana4CE It's interesting that your anomaly included another Benjamin. What was the other rifle?

I move scopes around quite a lot. Started putting a laser on the rail or clamping it to the barrel. Then align the laser to the crosshairs of the scope to be removed. When I put the new scope on it's simply a matter of lining the crosshairs up with the laser. So I'm usually twisting knobs before pulling a trigger.

@Hal4son Benjamin M357 to a Western Rattler .357.

I hardly ever swap scopes directly from one gun to another gun. When I retrieved the Helos Gen 2, 2-12x42 I started to reset the turrests to zero first, but I got lazy and said to myself, "let's just see where the first shot lands." It was a bullseye and I wasted a sight-in target.

You don't like the 2-12 Helos? Man I love those. It's not for everyone with the reticle but I really like it. Didn't think I would though when I bought it.

I have had them very close if not dead on before though. I remember from long ago. Most my guns are tuned the same .22 30fpe so would make sense if all was lined up correctly with same rail configurations like MOA amounts and such.

@Dairyboy Now that you say that I want to compare chrony data between the two guns and ammo combos. The Helos feels heavy to me for a compact and almost LPVO magnification range. I'd have preferred a 3-15x or 3-18x magnification range with this reticle. Then the subtentions look odd to me. I never left it on a gun long enough to get used to it. Maybe it'll catch some rec on this Rattler. This is a quick cquisition shot styeled gun so hopefully this is a good pairing for a couple of applications I can think of.

Edit: And now I know why the subtentions look strange. The DMR reticle is the one I'd prefer as opposed to the AHMR2. https://athlonoptics.com/product/helos-btr-gen2-2-12x42-dmr-scope/

My Impact MK2 was dressed up with Falcon X50 (50 MOA reticle) for couple years, with eaglevision adjustable mounts.
This year started a 308 f-class project gun, and I didn't wanted to invest into a new scope until I see some promising results.
The Impact has a zero MOA rail so I mounted a same zero MOA rail on the Rem 700 as well...
On the scope replaced the eaglevision rings with ARC (American Rifle Co) 20 MOA built in....
Impact .25x700 shooting 100 meter BR, scope zeroed,
Rem 308 shooting 300 meter BR...
The elevation between the two guns is less then 10 clicks on these distances (and I measured with caliper and wrote it down).
I am shooting my pellet Impact 95% of the time the Rem 308 is in a locker. When I want to play pb games I just replace the scope to other gun.
I don't see a reason to spend $$$$ for a dedicated scope for each gun.

Is yours in MOA or MIL? That I think makes the difference. Mine was MIL. The MOA I think is a BDC reticle not a true MOA

So i went through photos and found the picture of my first target. I didn’t adjust anything besides the parallax knob and I probably couple left it where it was, but it’s a habit to snap it into focus at max mag before shooting.

It’s not a dead center bullseye but it hit it on the first shot and a subsequent shot (I don’t recall which one). Later I hit pretty much dead center back-to-back.

Different ammo and rests were used between the two targets. I didn’t adjust the elevation or windage turrets on the scope at all.
