Skout Everything Skout EVO and Epoch

I am loving my .25 Skout EVO! I have a .25 Submoa barrel that shoots the AEA 33.9 and Rangemaster 33.95 very very well. I have had very good success with it this season and could not recommend it enough.

Started some slug testing in my orange Skout Evo. I have .22 and .25 barrels and tested Altaros 49.5 and 60 grain in .25 and 32.3 grain in .22. Didn’t have any 40 grain “Toros” available but will test later.
The .22 Toro in 32.3 shot very well at 930-935 fps and the tune is excellent.

Snapped a few pics at 100Y, here’s 6 or 7 shots

I shot the 60 grain Queens at about 885 fps, and they were good, but not excellent, and the gun seems strained and jumpy.
Then I shifted to the 49.5 grain at about 900 fps and they were excellent. No groups but here’s an EBR card shot competition (not group) style at 100 yards. The upper right target already had a few holes from previous testing but I was too lazy to change it out. Light breeze, nice day. 237-8x not bad…

The stats looked pretty good also, not quite as good as my .25 Panthera 600mm but the accuracy is equivalent.

Did a little shooting yesterday with a new barrel I’m testing on my Skout EVO in .177

The wether here in OKC has been crappy and drizzly rain so I didn’t get to test any more today, but so far it has been quite promising.
Unlike most people I’m shooting a .177 at close range. 19yards to be exact and extreme precision is my goal not just distance.

Here is a 30 shot group I shot with a front tripod and shouldered on the rear.

once I get some more bench time…. Hopefully tomorrow… wether permitting I’ll start posting some numbers.

I have a Skout Epoch haven't had but a couple of hours to play with it but shooting AEA, JTS 33 grain and it's shooting 2" groups at 50 yards out of the box . Shooting at 930-940 fps. Any advice at where to start?
So the first thing that I would do is work on the barrel index. So I would start on number one and shoot groups of 10.. I would cite your scope in to number 1, and then as you rotate your barrel to the next number and shoot another group, you can see where your pallet moves and so you’ll want to pick the one that shoots the highest.
next will be just tweaking your velocity and finding the pellet that your gun likes the best. Unfortunately, that’s the hardest Part because not everything on every barrel is going to be identical.
AEA pellets seem to be the most consistent in weight and shape but they do fit a bit tight and are ever so slightly oversized so sometimes the barrel doesn’t like them. JSB’s would be the next ones I would try.

Well it took me longer to report back than I was hoping. We’ve had everything from ice and snow and subzero temperatures to today where it’s 70°.
I finally got my coronagraph back up in recording properly and I’ve made some interesting discoveries.
I found that I get a greater POI shift and Pellet speed shift ( speeds changing between each shot) if im running a lower pressure, say 1000-1200psi range.
In other words, the 600 to 750 fps range I was getting a much larger Speed variation.. 10fps or more between each shot regardless of the pressure that I was at in this range.

So I started increasing my regulator pressure and speed and strangely enough my groups tightened up as well as my pellet velocity stabilized. My accuracy has improved tremendously. Now my extreme spread on multiple testing is like 3-4fps and better

I tried doing these tests before with the standard scout barrel with a 1/19 twist and my pellets did not like to be pushed fast and seemed to prefer a slower speed.
Since changing barrels with a 17.7 twist, and the overall barrel length is about 2 inches shorter the pallets seem to like to be pushed a lot faster and has really responded well to the AEA brand of pellets. The biggest surprise was the change in velocity consistency. Before each shot would go up or down sometimes by as much as 10FPS, but now since I’ve turned the regulators up, the shot speed has held really consistent. 🤷‍♂️🤔

So here’s my secret settings
All shot using a front tripod and the rear was shouldered. ( yes I need a rear rest! 🤦‍♂️)

HP 1960psi
LP 215psip
Dwell 12
Lothar Walther .177 barrel 17.7 twist.
AEA pellets 10.3g
Shoots around 812fps
19yards

Here is a 13 shot group and my chronograph results.

NOW, if I can repeat this tomorrow and the next day I’ll be extratic !

Interesting! Out of interest what size is the aperture on the valve seat/pre transfer port, as I have found making a reducer for the manifold (seat to barrel shroud) has tightened up my fps variation by a lot previously up to 20 or more down to 10 and below, but mine is sub 12 and I don't think it likes the regs being turned down to achieve this, I am also looking for another barrel for mine.

So I haven’t done any modification to the transfer port or valve seat. Skout has a small transfer port that was sent to me for shooting the .177 and a large one for shooting the other Calibers lile my .30 Sub MOA Barrel.

also when I talk about POI shift it was really small like 1/8- 1/16 but the bigger thing that was a surprise was all of a sudden my pellet speed shift went away 🤷‍♂️
when talking to Skout about barrels they are constantly testing barrels so they’ll get a batch in from different manufacturers and they’ll test them. If they like them they’ll release them but then they’ll get a bad batch and they’ll take them off their website until they are all consistent.
The 177 barrel that I have it’s kind of a test barrel. I sent my stock .177 in for repair because the crown was nicked and I was having POI shift as well. they sent me this one back as an exchange And to test

another interesting thing is I had gone through all this testing with the stock.177 barrel and as I turned the speed up my groups got worse, could have been a crown problem or it didn’t like the twist rate of 1/19 🤷‍♂️

How is your 30 cal working out?

So I haven’t got to shoot it as much as I would like recently. My little backyard 19 yard range is a little bit much for a 30 caliber lol.
But as soon as the weather gets consistently warm, I’m gonna start shooting it more.
I have a local hundred yard indoor range that I might start going to a little bit as well

I was curious as to what size the unlimited valve seat/TP was in relation to the sub 12 .177 as mine measures at just 1.9mm, I have just got back from the range for another frustrating test and accuracy still leaves a lot to be desired I can get one in the bull and then the next few shots will be 10-12mm off in all directions, my crown looks good and another .177 barrel i re-crowned, but it was still much the same, so I will either find another barrel that I can adapt or end up getting and LW barrel, I have tried so many different pellets now with none getting the results I could get with my other guns the Epoch is proving a real pain.

What speed and pressure are you running it at?
