Stoeger Experience with older Stoeger XM1 S4?

I picked up a new, old stock, Stoeger XM1 S4 at the local sporting goods place last week. I was never really interested in them until I held one in my hands. Gun feels very natural, I really like the stock. Trigger is a very long but light pull something akin to a Gamo. I can probably fix that. The owner offered it to me for cost so I figured what the heck.

Anyway the breech reminds me a lot of a Diana Stormrider. I suspect it is much the same gun. What have your experiences been?

It is very much a storm rider or pr900 in a better stock.. a member has some of these for sale in the classified section for $120.

Kerndtc or something similar is the member name.

I wonder how they will handle some heavy stuff like a eun jin.

They’re not known for being power houses really.. they may shoot those accurately but probably only around 600-700fps and for a mag or less shots with the smallish air supply.
I had a pr900 that I converted to 25 cal and it made 36fpe and got a lot of shots but I had chopped the tube and added a regulated bottle to it.

I will take 600+ feet per second with a eun jin. That is some serious air power for me. A lot more than my R9 or my Benjamin pumper. If I gotta step up from there, I will grab something other than an air rifle.

Realistically I just want something quiet I can keep in the corner to take out the chicken raiders. 25 FPE is plenty for that. And honestly, I bought it because of the ergonomics and because it was dirt cheap. It really feels good.

No doubt, 600 fps is deadly.. just some people think you gotta have Mach 9 to consider it able to kill something
I took my first cottontail at age 8 or 9 with a Daisy Quicksilver. That gun made about 1.5 fpe of energy 🤷. The performance was lacking but it got the job done. It would not be my first choice though.

Any lead pellet with over 10 fpe on impact and pinpoint accuracy will probably kill anything smaller than a deer with the right shot. 20 fpe on raccoons and possums is devastating 👌

One good thing I can say about this rifle is that it holds air. It’s been sitting unopened in the stock room at Everhart’s for 4-5 years, and it still had about 2k psi in the tube. Fired a few shots, seems pretty fast and hard hitting with the heavy EJ domes. I just ordered a hand pump from Walmart for $33 altogether. So altogether I have maybe $200 in this rig, including a fill source and scope 👌
