Beeman Experience with the beeman r9 for hunting?

Im looking into a beeman r9 for hunting Eurasian collard doves. I love traditional airguns, I found a “Benjamin Franklin” 490 series today in .177, hand pump.

Works great! Missing some screws and is ugly but darn does she still kick lol

Wondering about the beeman r9 as a upgrade for a non pcp airgun.

Pyramid air has one and I can do paypl pay in 4 and get it by wednesday, and this was my choice so I wouldnt splurge so much at once.

Wondering what ya’lls experience with em is.

It has
Pros:
-potential to mod
-scope mount holes
-.177 and .22 options
-about 17-20fpe (more if modded?)
-might be compatible with some daisy/other german manufacturers parts and kits?
Cons
-bit expensive

Great choice in my opinion. Get a springer rated scope and you're all set. It can take a while to get used to shooting springers, practice a lot before you go after live targets.
Shot placement is key, rather than power, look at some pigeon or dove anatomy charts to see where the vitals are.

Prior to this Id use my umarex notos and aim for the head. Usually doesn’t destroy the meat

And of course. I would hate to cause anymore pain obv, Ive hunted with my shotgun but if anything this is a want more than a need, this airgun.

Here is another blog about airgun hunting. Paul is a contributing member here too.

Here is one about making the right powerplant choice.

I don't want to repeat info you already know but I've always found my HWs to have a fair bit of twang from the factory. Some people find it bothersome, some don't. I usually put a tune kit pretty quickly into all of mine to eliminate that and like to switch to Krytox from the factory Dino lubes, also a good chance to inspect the factory piston seal incase it arrived damaged., and deburr the cocking slot.

Great choice, I have four of the HW95 variants, a 95 in .177, Beach stock, a 95 in .20 in a HW walnut stock, a 85 in .22 beach stock and a 98. in .177 I love them all. I have a Tinbum full power kit coming for the 98 should be hear next week, Ill post about when I get it installed. I also have a ARH adjustable kit I'm putting the 95, .177 tomorrow, comes with 3 spacer from sub 12 to full power. Im going to put 2 spacers and see how it shoots.

Great rifle choice, welcome to the rabbit hole. I, like many others have a couple of HW95/R9 rifles. They are very accurate with a light hold and work well off of a bag with a slippery surface like a cotton handkerchief.

The stock iron sights are awesome, I can hit cans at 50 yards with them. However, a BKL 260 droop mount and a Hawke Airmax one inch 3-12x44 scope are a great choice for optics.

Try the H&N Field Target Trophy .177 452 and 453 head sizes. I was hitting quarter-sized spinners off of a bag at 55 yards with mine this weekend.

Have fun and stock up on pellets, you are going to need 'em!
