That falls into the "gimmick" category for me.

A well placed shot with the appropriate energy is all that's required to do the job.

I'd be very cautious about putting chemicals and explosive compounds in me airgun. They can't be good for the bore.

Cheers!
Suddenly airguns wont be airguns anymore and be outlawed.

Exploding pellets great or just a gimmick ? Anyone ever see a 45 or 50 cal exploding slug or pellet?or even a 30 35 caliber?
I would call it just a gimmick. These pellets are sold for a ridiculously expensive price. It fouls up your barrel within 10ish shots, and the accuracy isn't really there. Also the boom from contacting it target isn't big enough time create a larger wound, at the same time I find it to hinder the projectiles penetration capabilities as it would be making contact first, slowing the projectile down.

Exploding pellets result in less penetration but a bigger initial wound. Not sure if it's still up, but the Edgun Leshiy channel showed the results on squirrels and it was significant. That said, a vanilla 22 pellet is overkill for a squirrel so I'm not sure if that's a particularly helpful demonstration.

In the ones I've seen, the chemicals are tucked-away from the bore, but I could imagine there are some out there that are sloppily constructed and foul your bore.

Hate the unwanted attention also! Just because someone figures a new way to do stupid things with airguns doesn't mean it SHOULD be done. I don't want to be lumped in with all the "crazies" that people are looking for nowadays. Firebirds are understandable but what are exploding pellets going to accomplish besides singed fur & negative attention? BTW if anyone needs me I'll be in the basement working on my Molotov pellets  🤪

I think the exploding pellets is about as old as Methuselah, nothing new, these also always seem to fly really bad
I would prefer exploding targets but those are illegal here, so we are tinkering with ways to pressurize soda bottles to 3-4 BAR, and that you will hear.

BUT ! As Denmark is the worlds foremost bottle recycling country, then when you pay a soda, you also pay for the bottle, which will then be refunded when you turn it in for recycling / re use.
So our exploding targets do have a price aside for the valving in them.

Exploding targets like firebird ASO, way louder than a damn .22 pellet.

Anything bigger, well i have not looked, but as a childhood chemist i know of a few substances that could be used, but really not worth it.

I think it's an idea that might have potential. I'm much more interested in accuracy and a good BC than I am in terminal effects though and I think that exploding pellets will likely only impact those negatively.

Where I think they might have potential is with the various 50 and 68 caliber pistols. If you watch Airgun Alley or Jeorg Sprave you can see where airguns are being taken in that direction. I find that very fascinating as well, but since I'm able to own firearms, I can't see the point in spending several hundred dollars on weapons designed to circumvent laws I'm not subject to.

A lot of powder burner ranges prohibit tracer ammo and exploding targets so I would think exploding ammo would also be prohibited. From a backyard range to hunting I think the cost will keep them in the gimmick category. However I do agree that I think that someone looking for an excuse to curb Airgun use they will make a very news media attention stunt.

funny you bring up molotov pellets.. about 8 years ago, i spent an excessive amount of time creating such a projectile. i eventually came to the conclusion that it was stupidly dangerous after finally getting one to shoot and ignite on impact. accuracy at 15-20 yards was minute of 5 gallon bucket lol what was i thinking?🤣😅
