If you were going to purchase an FX air rifle in .22 caliber, which one would it be and why would you choose that given model? I have heard so many varying opinions on different models that it has become very confusing. Thanks in advance for your input.

This is a loaded question, but for me, .22 I use around the house for pesting under 75yds. For that, I’d use a wildcat compact. I wouldn’t neee speeds that surpassed 900fps, so it would be the perfect setup.

I couldn’t choose, I have an Impact MKII, Crown Continuum and Wildcat Sniper, all in .22 but have liner for .25 for Impact.

I would have to agree with madeintheuk , and if you want to in the future try different ammo and slugs it would do the trick.

In my opinion pretty much any current FX air rifle in .22 would be fine. If i had to choose “One (FX) Gun to Rule Them All” then I would probably get an Impact M3, given the ability to adjust from very low power up to full on Beast mode. However it’s hard to beat the Wildcat Compact for small and light, or the Crown for standard rifle ergonomics, or the Dreamline for value (in the FX line of course). The only one which doesn’t stand out, FOR ME, is the Maverick. It is very powerful, but not quite an Impact. It’s not as ergonomically friendly as the Wildcat or the Crown, and the new Wildcat MK3 BT takes care of any advantage it had vis-a-vis the Wildcat.

I love all the FX airgun line, but if you want high end slug power then here is how it works.
M3 700mm barrel 79 foot pounds
Maverick Sniper 700mm barrel 71 foot pounds (I have one and it will do that)
Dreamline Power Pup 700mm barrel 69 foot pounds
Wildcat MKIII BT 700mm barrel 69 foot pounds.
I have 2 Maverick Snipers one in 22cal and one in 25cal. You can shoot the 22cal with the superior liner up to 25grain pellets with great accuracy. Beyond that, they say you need the superior heavy liner. I personally have shot all the NSA lineup from 17.5 grain to 24.8 grain out of the superior line with no problems, plus the JSB KO's at 25.39 grains.
**Honestly if the Wildcat Sniper BT would have been out last year, I would have bought it and will more than likely buy one in the next few months.

I currently have a dreamline compact bottle rifle with a the 177,22 and 25 barrels. I do really enjoy it in whatever cal I choose for the purpose it needed. That being said. If the FX Wildcat MkIII BT was out when I bought my dreamline compact I would have bought it instead.. possibly...maybe... I do like the dreamline compact a awful lot. It does serve its purpose well!

Depends what you want and like. All the rifles are pretty well capable. I like a traditional layout, so I'd go with a dreamline or crown. I own a crown personally. Sometimes wish I had a dreamline for the slimmer profile, but having a bottle is nice for shot count.

The only FX platform I will own is the Boss/Royale, which means a Royale 400 in .22. It uses the original solid ST barrel, no liner/sleeve/shroud/O rings in the barrel assembly. The action is simple and robust. Can't remember the last time I cleaned the barrel, but it didn't need it! POI never shifts, and deadly accurate. If you like to tinker, don't get one. FX makes a whole bunch of rifles with enough gadgetry to keep even the most compulsive tinkerer busy. But if you want to shoot, and shoot, with no interruptions, the Royale will do it.

for me the maverick hands down! Simpler maintenance and so close in power to the m3 ( which is much more complex to work on) that its a wash. if you don’t want an adjustable butt plate go for the wildcat bt which is a maverick with a regular stock

I have the FX I wanted. Wildcat Compact. But, at 105 bar and PW7 I get 978 fps using the CPD of course.

Wildcat is my favorite platform but if u could only have 1 I would say Impact with 2 barrels——short one for pellets and long heavy slug barrel.

Imho these were the best pellet platform FX ever made. Bobcat, Royale, Boss (from front to back).

I bought a cheap one on Ebay. It works fine, but the good news, the Royale is one of the few rifles in my experience that shoots as well from the mag as a s/s tray. I rarely use mine.
