Favorite FX Airgun

@Rockodoc,

Always a great (loaded) question.

With a winded response…

The posts here are such wonderful insights into the nuances of each FX airgun, along with the advantages of the chosen model(s). I am working on my 5th FX. One of the last productions of the Impact MK2 in 600mm .30 . My first was a used Dreamline Classic in .25 and I was hooked. Then followed an Impact MK1/MK2 w/PP and other upgrades. Then later that same year was a Wildcat MK3 sniper in .30 w/.22 barrel kit. One month later, on Black Friday, I ordered the last available Maverick sniper in .22

I too, was learning what each had to offer, ergonomically as well as mechanically, and how they stacked up against one another in my various disciplines of 100 BR, LR 150+, short and long range pesting and plinking.

Having 4 FX's I knew at least one had to go (not a hoarder). After shooting traditional rifles all my life, I reluctantly bought the Impact as an experiment to see whether I was a “Bullpup Kinda Guy”. I was hooked on the platform due to ergonomics and adjustability along with the upgraded mechanicals and power potential compared to the Dreamline.

The Wildcat MK3 seemed to be the next Bullpup design that needed my consideration. Oh what fun it is! I now know why it has been said to be one of the benchmarks for compact design. So comfortable to shoulder and woods walk with.

Then the Maverick Sniper was the new kid on the block with all its fancy dual regs and mondo PP. This I thought was going to be my game changer and be the “one and done” airgun that would do away with all the others. I thought with the easy interchangeable liners and probes (probes, not true) I can have one gun that does it all!!! Sell the others! Well, I did slow down and re-consider. The Impact MK2 and Maverick were so close in ergonomics and comfort that the Maverick was the winner due to the new upgrades and power potential as well as its ability to cross platform with the Wildcat. That seemed to be a no brainer to me. My Impact body parts fit on the Maverick too. Impact MK1/MK2 was sold to a good friend which turned it into an incredible project and is now a one-of-a-kind beast.

Next up was the Dreamline Classic. It was .25 and very accurate to 75yds. I learned much about the mechanicals in this design, and its weaknesses, which FX later upgraded. It became a safe queen for a year. Sold it was.

Down to 2 FX’s now. Still felt the Maverick was the King in both .22 and .30. The Wildcat was losing its luster and the chopping block was approaching. Then things changed…

A good friend said a nice late model Impact MK2 600mm .30 was available at a great price with “all the goodies”. Became mine soon after.

After tuning and shooting the Maverick for over a year and then moving back to an Impact (real) MK2, I was blown away at what the tactical feel/mechanical difference was between the two compared to my last Impact. The bottom line. The Impact MK2 is refined in every aspect over the Maverick and well above the Dreamline, not to say the Maverick is a “lesser FX”, It’s different, very confident, very solid, very accurate and easy to work on, no question. Excellent price point choice as is the Impact.

I have had a recent opportunity to pest birds (March 2022) at a local farm and decided “Hay!” I can rebuild the Wildcat into a nice lightweight low power high shot count barngun because I have all these interchangeable parts and pieces. Bingo.

Selling the Wildcat MK3 is off the table now, so don’t ask 😉

WC .22 shooting Predator GTO’s 11.75 @880 getting 150+ shots on a fill, yea, it Rocks.

The Maverick has moved from a 700mm .30 to a High power .22 tuned to shoot any slug I choose to put down range accurately (Patriot 40gr?). This is such a comfortable, easy gun to shoot accurately, with consistency, and big shot counts just a tune away, but, it is not my #5 new Impact MK2.

Bottom line; The Impact MK2 does 4 out of 5 of my disciplines, with finesse.

The Impact has a new option this week. A brand new production .177 700mm barrel kit from Europe. Can’t wait to play with this setup! Sooo excited.

Again, one of the fantastic features of the FX platform is the interchangeability between calibers. I never feel like I’m “stuck” and have to buy a new gun just to meet my need/want, maybe, but not always necessary within these platforms.

For me, I’m left with 3 fantastic FX guns that preform for me as they should in the platform I choose to shoot.

The FX Impact is part of the Tier One elite group of airguns that deliver the nuances that many have posted here on AGN. The FX Impact as well as the full line of FX guns have a place in many disciplines and should be considered by each in their pursuit.

FX airguns are not perfect and maintenance free, but, there is a “je ne sais quoi” about them that is well…Why have one?

(I admit this reeks of “fan boy”, but I’m sticking with what works for me, and I’m flexible too)

As always. Be safe, have fun and shoot straight.

If you were going to purchase an FX air rifle in .22 caliber, which one would it be and why would you choose that given model? I have heard so many varying opinions on different models that it has become very confusing. Thanks in advance for your input.

I love the Crown, started off in 22 cal and moved up to 25 with better accuracy and more knock down power and easier to handle the pellets in hand

I find the 500mm barrel a happy medium for not to short and not to long and ditch the 480 and 580cc bottles for a 700cc, with longer shooting sessions and not much weight difference and can be filled to 300 bar

I hate the Wildcat and Maverick and any rifle where the magazine is under my ears and head causing ear damage

The Crown is similar to a conventional rife setup with everything in front of your ears and head

I’ve had tinnitus for over 40 constant years and the audible nerve vibrates more actively in discernment catching every excessive 💥

If you where to put a sound meter over the magazine it would register higher but harder for those with healthy ears to pick up
