I want to let you know that the next FT match at ASC will be Saturday, February 25 (the 4th Saturday of the month as normal). This next match will be 60 shots using 3 targets per lane. Start time is 10:00am to allow for the temperature to rise a little before the match starts. I will only cancel the match if it is raining hard or if the temperature is below 40F at match start time.

Gates will open at 7:30 for sight in and sign up.
Safety meeting at 9:45. Rifle match to start at 10:00.
All rifles must be in a case or rifle carrier when moving between lanes.
Please note that it is a club rule that all shooters wear appropriate EYE protection. We don't have extras so remember to bring your own.

Please let me know if you plan to attend. If I don’t get more than a few responses, I will cancel the match for this month.

FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 02/25/2023

We shoot year-round here in Texas and for this second match of 2023, it was much colder than last month with the high being 45F, overcast and threatening rain sprinkles all day. Even though the weather was dreary, we had 20 competitors join us! Perhaps it was my enticement to come and shoot in “English Weather Conditions” that brought them out.

Scott Cotton and I checked the targets for proper operation and setup the course on Friday morning in the same dreary conditions we would experience on Saturday. The layout this month consisted of 3 targets per lane on 10 lanes on our 3D archery course. About 1/3 of the lanes had close targets with small holes and the rest had far targets with larger holes to allow shooters to practice their close and far shots. There were comments from shooters about which target to shoot in a near to far order, because the targets on more than a few lanes were separated by only a yard or so in distance. Everything conforms to AAFTA rules for courses as it does every month at ASC, but I like to make it as challenging as we can dream up. Thanks as always to Scott, the assistant to the match director, and to everyone who helps me setup, run, and takedown the course each month. Kudos!! The average Troyer this month was 30.7, SD 4.51, Avg Dist 30.6 yds, and Avg KZ 1.11”.

Shooters came from as far as Tulsa, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston to shoot with us today. We had one new shooter this month, Real M who was a guest of Paul Kocurek and everyone welcomed him to the match. We started at 10:00am after our standard safety meeting, and then spread out on the course “shotgun” style and started shooting.

Hunter PCP was once again the most numerous and contested class for the day with 12 shooters. 1st place was Derrick Wall shooting his Kalibrgun Cricket Tactical with 54/60, followed by long-time friend Craig Martin shooting his Daystate CRX-ST with 44/60 beating out Jim Clark shooting his Daystate Redwolf also with 44/60 based on their offhand lane scores.

We had 2 Hunter Piston shooters today. Bill Burkett bested his son at this match and finished in 1st shooting 35/60 with his AA TX200. I guess getting whooped last month encouraged Bill to practice in the interim. LOL

In WFTF, we had three shooters. I finished first with 53/60 shooting my RAW TM1000, while Stan Kaloyanov finished 2nd with a 39/60 shooting his Thomas.

Finally, we had two shooters in Unlimited class. Brian Stafford finished 1st shooting his Daystate Huntsman with 42/60. I think that perhaps we will have a few more shooters convert to Unlimited as the year progresses.

You can see all the other scores and the equipment used in the table below. Take a look at the growing content of our shooting score analyses website https://airgunshoot.com/ that shows your score on each lane, your hit percentage by lane or near/mid/far targets, how you compare to your class average, your class winner, and the HOA winner. Thanks to Scott for his work on this, you should be able to tease out some areas where you can improve and hopefully finish higher in the standings.

Our next match will be on Sunday March 26 rather than our usual day due to a club activity. This match will start at 9am since the time has changed and it should hopefully be a little warmer.

See you at the next match,
Jeff Cloud
