FedEx One Rate - Flat Rate Shipping

I just came across this method of shipping for the 48 contiguous states using FedEx. I realize everyone doesn’t like this courier service so it may not be for you. However, it is nice to have another option.

I also don’t know what their policy is concerning airguns. For all other items this seems like a good option for packages 50lbs and under.

@JaceSpace1369 I looked into the box sizes. Thanks for bringing that up. So for most other things besides airguns this may be an alternative to USPS flat rate shipping. I hope they don't change the rate during the holiday season.

I've had 2 claims in over a thousand packages I've shipped through UPS, FedEX and USPS.

The UPS claim was denied due to the item information not matching what the claim was for.

I sold an airgun, I was honest and they denied ot because I didn't include the model number.

The other claim was approved but I never used "air gun", I simply put Umarex Notos in the description and it went straight through.

FedEx's flat rates don't seem so competitive the more I look into it. Their "flat rate" system appears to be tiered where the destination shipped is a factor. Note how FedEx fees are described "As low as $...." That's counterintuitive when discussing a flat rate for shipping.

It looked like it may have been ok at first glance. It certainly doesn't appear to be a simple system.

Stick to pirateship, you cannot beat their price unless you scam the carrier by fudging numbers.

They, much like eBay or Amazon, have a bulk shipping rate discount because of the volume they do. No individual shipper here will strike a better deal than a large corporation whose shipments are in excess of 10's of thousands daily.

I've used UPS and USPS and now, mostly deal with Pirate ship. You fill out the receivers information, pay the fee, then they give you the shipping label. They have never asked what you are shipping. Just bring the box with the shipping label attached and they take it-no questions. If I'm shipping an air rifle or high dollar item, I take it to the UPS hub just to be safe. They don't ask questions either. If you are shipping firearms, that's a different story. I take them to my LGS who ships through FedEx insured. Never had a problem there. If the question isn't asked, don't answer it.

I believe someone here on AGN found in PirateShip's fine print that they do have some kind of restrictive policy for firearms / airguns.. etc. I have not verified this myself but I use them anyway. They only gave me grief one time, the very first time I used them actually :(, they claimed the box dimensions were incorrect and then billed me almost double. I disputed it and it was ruled back in my favor. Other than that, they've been great.
My son uses Shippo but I haven't looked into that one at all but I assume it's the same thing as pirateship

UPS through pirateship has a restriction for shipping guns of any kind, but USPS through pirateship I do not see such fine print. YMMV

I'm confused as to why you even have to tell them what you're shipping.

It's none of their business what you are shipping, specially since you're not shipping anything illegal. If they ask and you want to be cordial, just tell them it's sporting goods.

Pirateship has a clause that if the under charged you or over charged you they will rectify it but I haven't seen anything about guns or otherwise.

Pneumatic paper puncher, machine parts, car parts. None of their business as long as it is not a Dangerous Goods / HAZMAT shipment. I usually take my packages to the UPS hub with the label already attached. If you create a UPS account they give you a discount.

Insurance with any of these shipping companies is a straight up scam. It's like buying an extended warranty for a chainsaw that these box stores try to add on at the register (back in the day when you had people actually check you out). You'll never use it, and they will make it so complicated if you try to that you will just give up. it's straight up profit for them. If you are someone like me that ships hundreds of items a year, I don't waste my money on it. I self-insure. With the money I saved by NOT buying their insurance I can replace an item that gets lost or damaged several times over and still be money ahead. Obviously if you are someone who only ships a few boxes and you are sending a $2000 air rifle my only advice is have all your I's dotted and T's crossed and cross your fingers that something doesn't happen whether you purchased insurance or not. It will be a crap shoot either way.
