Benjamin Feeding my Akela

Picked up an Akela in 177. At the same time I grabbed the tune-up kit. Wondering what you're feeding the gun and how do you like the spring kit.
Thanks
Mike
Mine is doing okay so far, put both springs in and the allen hst adjustment. Witht he hst flush and 3/4 full on the wheel it was shooting 10.34gr barracuda hunters around 960-970. Too fast, shot some barracuda powers (copper coated 10.65gr also more friction) and witht he same setting they were grouping under 1/3" at 44yds getting about 7 mags from 3000-1700

Had a spring with .062 wire, .44 diameter. Cut it down in steps so I could get 900 fps with the restrictor mm wide open and have room to adjust up and down. I ended up at 2 & 3/16 long. Hammer free floats about an eighth inch. So far things look good, 10.65s at 900 and air consumption is minimal. Have yet to do a long shooting session so I can't give you any numbers.

Once I get another hammer in my hands I'll lighten it up and go thru this process again. Who knows maybe I'll be happy with the way the new spring acts and won't want to mess with it any more.🤞

This is the spring length I running in my .177 Akela right now.

It’s the stock spring cut to this length.

Plenty of headroom for 900+ fps with 10.3g and great efficiency.

I have not tried shorter - like your 2 3/16 - I’d imagine that the retaining pin for the hammer spring adjuster will just fall out as your totally free floating the spring. I’d probably have to put some tape over the pin to keep from losing it when taking the stock off.

Please share you shot string at that spring length.

Had to put a new battery in my calipers, OAL checked 2.13, OD is .437, wire is .062 As far as the retaining pin goes mine is snug and requires light pressure to remove. If you're worried about it falling out without the stock on try magic marker on one end of the pin.

As far as the shot string, I don't crony every shot in the beginning. I'll let you know how it goes. I don't feel like sitting there for long periods of time just pulling the trigger.

I ended up cutting the factory spring down to like 2.52, figured I did too much and put the tune kit in it instead, both springs.

Currently shooting 15gr Varmint Knocker slugs mid 780fps. Hammer adjustment is flush (tune kit adjustment) and port is fully open.

49.6yd 7 shot group, the outlier was my fault. But 6 shots inside a dime.

Here's the latest shot string. Have a hardware store hammer spring in there. .062 wire, 2.125 long, .433 outside diameter, 14 winds of wire. Using air gun revisions valve spring and their Hammer spring adjuster which is flush. Transfer port is wide open. Shooting h&n barracudas 10.65 grain

That's awesome! How is the sound in the hst area? Does it vibrate uncontrollably, is it mild, or non existent?

Nice cash of iguanas. You're going to have to work a lot harder than that put a damper on them. May I ask what you do with them once you collect all the ones you shot.
Oh I know, this was just 15 minutes at a new house I was working. I do iguana removal for a living, and I freeze and sell them on the side. These are just a few pictures from over the years

No twang from the spring. I think the barrel and shroud are vibrating. I'm going to make a barrel spacer to try. Just a ring over the muzzle end of the shroud. I've been using some copolymer material for a lot of quick prototype parts. Really like the stuff.
How would the barrel spacer help with the vibration?

The spacer would go between the shroud and barrel. Kind of like rolling an oring over the shroud and against the air tube.

Hope I'm making myself clear
That makes sense, now you've got me thinking. I may have to check my baffles to make sure the ammo isn't striking them, making that vibration so violent. I' thinking it's coming from the spring area, but it's transfered throughout the whole gun to where I can' see through my scope when I take my shot. It's not everytime either, or even most times it's at random.
Just looked at your iguana pictures from over the years,

HOLY COW

Yeah, and I have many more posts on this forum.
