FWB Feinwerkbau 65 front sight

Mike who had a replacement for these pistols, it was Nygard or something like that and how did they mount
i looked all over for a sight off barrel groove picture today and found nothing but FWB doesn't machine a barrel or any part that way
and why it fell of now is an unknown
but i will tell you, if it was my pistol that would drive me nuts
so, i mentioned printer paper as a shim, it is really to determine shim material needed
you can get stainless shim material at all sorts of thicknesses and most thin material can be cut with scissors
would i epoxy the shim in place maybe but height is only one part width is the other and if the sight can move front to back the pin could walk itself out
how i would fix it is hard to say for sure, but the pin should be net, net on the right side and be in its factory position

but that is me and not all think the way i do

and Mike D it is Mike here diopter mike LOL

Good! Glad it's holding, but I must say it does look a bit out-of-spec. A thin shim as marflow suggested might be in order.

The casting is a variation I have not seen before. The rounded sides look like my early one, but the top surface like my late one - very interesting!

Do you think my front sight is feinwerkbau? The finish inside is much rougher than I would expect from feinwerkbau. I should’ve taken a picture while I had it off but did not. I looked for an oem front sight but haven’t found one yet. I wouldn’t mind replacing the clamping pin and front sight to see if that improves the fit. But I keep coming back to the notch in the barrel that’s obviously an issue. The pistol was used in a lot of matches and came with patches and target grips with match stickers etc so maybe the front sight was switched out at some point. I can probably work out a shim if that’s the best solution. I just don’t want it falling out again! Thanks for the help everyone.

no, the sight is correct for an early model FWB 65 and at one time the pistol could of had a barrel sleeve on it as all early model had
the early models had rear sights that didn't adjust for width, the mk 1's had adjustable rear sights for width and the mk 2's had the same adjustability but the rear sight blade is wider
besides that, the frame changes at the rear
you can see that here at Vintage

all you can do is pin the sight back on the best you can, i would have to knock a pin out of my FWB 65's to measure the slot but not something i want to do
the pin should have the same width of the slot and the depth is, from what i can see too deep
but you going to have some calibers too measure shim material if you what it to look factory as the pin is several millimeters out the right side
this is not a hard fix as it will never be perfect but for someone to look at it, they would never know
you have a few choices
just leave it allow the sight is back on
shim it with paper or other and replace the pin to its right location
the harder choice is to fill the slot with some epoxy and reshape it and still after that you might have to shim a little
if it was mine i would do what the pistol deserves, repair the slot and take pride in your caring for

all i have

Instead of fill and reshape with expoxy. Just a drop on the flats to hold the pin in but not so much you cant knock it out if need to .

About the barrel looking worse then the pin the guy brought up above is the pin is hardened steel vs the softer barrel steel.

Thing i got to watch out for is you try to drive the pin in too much/ hard it could swell that spot and affect the id of the barrel with a bump or out of round affect ..

Idk.

my point on the pin is that the surface of the barrel slot is very rough but the pin has but a small spot that the finish was gone and even if the pin is harder than the barrel the pins finish is not leading me to believe the pin had been replace at some point because of damage to the original or loss all together

but we all have to guess what has happened because we were not with the pistol though out its history
old owner that hide the condition of a gun that they are selling are not telling the truth, was this the case here, it sounds like it and at that point you can do what you can the fix the problem, ignore it

i should not care how or what is done, i have only given some suggestions and some opinion and what is done does not affect me at all

WIth all due respect, I think you gents are over-thinking this a little. The tapered pin is actually quite an ingenious detail - simple, sturdy, no special tools needed, and self-adjusting, i.e., able to compensate for out-of-spec parts, or wear over time. The OP's pistol may look a bit odd but works perfectly as is, correct? The sight is precisely located and firmly attached.

If the pin's being off-center drives you crazy, just slide in a small shim as marflow suggested above.

FWB's springer match rifles use the same detail, and one of my old ones has the same "problem" (pin sticks out farther on the right). To be honest, I never noticed this until reading this thread! It has zero effect on the gun's function and I have no plans to "fix" it. 😀

It took me forever to find it, LOL - the German company Linbrunner made some very interesting accessories for the FWB 65, including a positionable trigger blade and front sight with a little muzzle brake - both seen in this pic:

Linbrunner also made a front sight with adjustable blade width, which Beeman sold for a time. (His description below is incorrect in one detail though- it uses the OEM pin, to mount in place of the original front sight, not "over" it.)
