Field Target gun 12 FPE, Scope setup out to 115 yards possible ??

Just bought a field target rifle land love it. Now I want to stretch it out to a long ways. My question is how would you serious FT guys go about shooting this distance ?

So my initial thoughts is my scope has 40 inches of elevation. Normally I guess that be 20 inches up or down when set dead center.

Initial thoughts if I want to shoot alot in the 25 to 100 yard range. Should I shunt my scope and have it point down. so basically I can then bottom out my scope crosshairs at the lowest aming point with the elevation adjustements? By shunting my scope I should have an adjustable range of more than 20 inches lets say closer to 30 to 40 inches of the total scope elevation range ?

Curious on how you field target guys adjust their scopes from long distance to regular 60 meter targets ?

Most field targets from my understanding is 7 to 60 meters ? I want to get out there a ways to test my skills and have some fun.

I have shot often with a "12fpe" rig at exactly 115 yards. My FT friend shooting His RWS75 in matchs inspired me. As I had a 12x UTG mil-dot I turned it down to 6x ( and had a really hard time seeing) and used the bottom dot with a zero of 27 yards. My "good" groups were often in the 1 & 3/4" range when shot at night with almost no wind. Daytime always had wind and inside 3" was about all I could do with that rig.

12fpe at range is FUN and will teach superior wind doping skill. A better scope set up would have been nice and or 20 MOA angle on the breech/mount. The Aeon 8-32 with 70 minutes adjustment might be nice at the price.

It's in your best interest to acquire a droop mount with drop counted in. Another solution is to back off magnification to reach out to the longer yardage.
Keep in mind, the lower end scopes, once they are optically centered and zeroed, you want to stay within their range of adjustment, meaning, usually no more than 2 turns up or down, depending on the scope. Going to the scopes outer limits, can, and usually does result in damage to the scope, and if that doesn't happen, you will have a wandering zero, best case scenario.

Jay,

I know Peter Matos makes them for Steyrs in particular, but should fit on any standard dovetail, as the Steyr has that. The part of the rail that is the top, is for Piccatinny rails, so you might have to acquire Piccatinny mounts for the scope. I don't know if he makes them with a regular dovetail on the top. They are not cheap, but built the way they should be...bulletproof. Off hand, I do not have any contact info for him.
I have a set of fully adjustable Sportsmatch mounts, that I'm going to put on my WFTF Marauder. I have not looked at them yet, don't know how much adjustment they can be dialed in for. These are probably your best bet, because, once you optically center your scope, (which should always be done when mounting a new scope to a gun) you can adjust the mounts in accordance to your desired zero.
Just remember, you can't get something for nothing. If you want to be able to reach out that far, you will loose your ability to be able to adjust for close targets, the distance of a pellet impact at 100 yards, and 20 yards is beyond any capabilities of the mount/scope combo. There might be an exception here and there, but for the most part, this will hold true.
Hope this helps,
