I would like to see photos of the members setups they use for field target matches . Things like the gun ,scope, and extra's on the guns and why they are there ,accessories used like bags ,gloves ect . IMO you need an accurate gun .177 or .22 that is consistent shot to shot under 20fpe for open and hunter class or under 12fpe for wftf class. Also a good scope for measuring the distance to the targets is vital. Depending on which class you shoot there are restrictions on what you can and can't do - see aafta rule book on the details. In my case I shoot open class and use an FX400 FT gun with a Nikko Stirling diamond 10-50x60mm scope. I use a bum bag to sit on and wear a harness and a sooting jacket. The bag is nice as it conforms to the terrain you are sitting on. The harness and jacket help support me in maintaining my position when shooting. 

It is most important for whatever setup you choose is to practice, practice, practice and go as many FT events you can. You may think after a while you've got this figured out but there is a lot more to it than meets the eye. Lastly but most importantly is to have fun.

It is a cool looking gun/scope combo but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that combo probably isn't setup to shoot at FT accuracy from 10 to 55 yards. And +1 to bvan's scope comment. You are going to need a scope that can accurately range from 10-55 yards and a turret where you can mark your yardage adjustments or go are going to have to be one heck of a good hold over shooter. I'd also recommend you get your gun from somewhere that will allow you to return it if something is wrong or it doesn't shoot up to your requirements.

I shoot a Steyr LG 100 as my primary and Daystate CR-X as backup. Both have Nikko Diamond Sterling 10-50x60 Sportsman scopes.

I have a 177 marauder which I really want to get set up for Hunter class. I added a Lane regulator and a HDD. Over 70 shots on a 3K fill. 
Problem is accuracy. At 37 yards (ChairGun suggested zero point), I'm getting groups of 1 to 2 inches. Trying the pellets I had, best were AA Diabolo Field 8.4gr with 0.75 to 1 inch groups. I expect better. Just received an order for $90 more pellets in the endless search for what this gun likes. 

Now waiting to sell an IZH46M pistol and I'll be ordering an HW77K from Krale. Probably will set that one up for HFT also.

Other problem is every weekend there's a FT match in my area, life gets in the way (weddings, first communions, family gatherings...man the summer goes fast!)

Annie how much do you want for the Izh . I have one and really like it . I shoot in the online facebook 10 m competition league. You put the date and time on the targets and take photos of your target before you shoot and post them on that page then you shoot and take photos of your cards and post them you score your card and they score them also . your scores are recorded and they keep the states all year at the end the person with the highest score wins . I'm not very good but its a lot of fun . I'm left handed so my brother and his sons can't shoot my gun so I'm trying to get him to get one to shoot with me .

I was looking at the rws model 48 specs . It has a fps of 1100 in .177 cal . I got on chair gun and put in some info . With a bsa storm 7.4 grain pellet at 1100 fps it comes out to 19.88 fpe . I set my blob target to 1 1/2 inch or in the visualization 38.1 mm I put the start range on 0 and the end on 55. I set my zero to 24 . With this setup the cross hairs stayed inside the 38.1mm target from 15 to 53 yards . If you click on the end range starting at 55yards and click the - minus and go down to 10 yards you can watch the cross hair move as the distance changes . I would think in field target this would be a good setup since its a flat trajectory . Would someone give me some input on this .I found a new rws 48 side level for 343.00 and I'm thinking about getting it for field target . I want to say with a springer or gas ram with a fixed barrel . I thought for the price and the fps allowing me to get close to the 20 fpe limit this would be a good gun to use . I setup my field target squirrel I got from Walmart the resettable one with the 36mm knockdown opening and the 52mm reset circle . I set it out to 55 yards . I was reading the post above from bvan and sharroff about their 10x50 scopes . I have a Sight Mark triple duty 8.5 x25x50 with a 5 inch side parallax wheel and when its set on 25x I can tell when its in perfect focus on the target 55 yards away . Also the 36mm opening on the target which is going to be 2 mm less than the 38.1 mm openings used in field target matches if I have that info correct ,with my crosshair in the center of the target opening sets just inside the first mildots so It seems to be plenty of room to set the center of the crosshair in the center of the opening . I guess what I'm getting at is if you can tell when your in perfect focus and have it marked on your wheel and know where to set the turrets and you have enough power to see your cross hairs are centered on the smallest and farthest target with a 25 x do you really need a 50 x scope.
After doing this scope test with my gun on my tripod rest I can tell its going to take a lot of practice to be able to hold my gun still enough to hit that opening . I have Newfound respect for those who can do it with out a rest .

Some lower end scopes that are say 10-50x will render to give milky images or soft images when pushing the higher mags. So running the mag near the middle of the scopes capability one can typically get OK results. The higher end scopes will give good views at all mags. Of course ranging gets better at the higher power. You just have to decide for yourself what mag ranges best for your eyes balancing how steady you can hold on target. Practicing will help improve your steadiness to the best of your capability.

Thanks bvan ,I don't know why I was thinking if you used a 50x you had to use it on that power to shoot . I also have a 10-40x56 sight mark thats on my 125 sniper . I'm going to set that target back up tomorrow and see if when I set it at 25 or 30 x if its a better view . I'm still not use to anything over 9x which I use to hunt with and I have only used my new scopes on a bench rest . Holding it on target with 25x is going to take a lot of work ,I'm all over the place . This is going to be a lot harder than I though . I think I'm definitely going to need a harness, jacket and bum bag . Will you post a link to a good type of harness ,jacket and bum bag .

Thanks for the links , bvan I'm sure your post will help a lot of newbie's like me . I was looking for a video on how to use the harness but no luck so far .I did find a few photos http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/blog/2009/06/going-steady-steady-aim-harness.html  but if you know of a video or photos on how to best use it will you link it here.
I took both the 8.5 -25 x 50 and the 10-40x56 out and set back up the target at 55 yards your right I do like having the extra zoom . with them both set at 25 x the 10-40 x56 was a little brighter and a little sharper and I kind of like the 30 x also and could tell it was a little easier to get perfect focus at 40x so I'm taking it off the 125 and putting it on the rws for hopefully future field target use . 
I have been sitting behind a bench with a rest and using my gun mount field tripod for way to long now . I sat on the ground and held the gun the best I could without firing and just pulling the trigger because I don't have it set up yet and there is no way I'm going to hit the target as of now . That 36mm hole target is going to be really hard to hit.55 yards away .
I put the rws bullseye spring loaded scope mount on the rws they show it in this video . I have had no trouble with the non air gun rated scopes with this mount so far . I even got one for my hatsan 125 sniper springer 22cal that kicks like a mule and the non rated scope is holding up so far on it . If a scope can stay together on the 125 you won't have to worry about it on any other air gun made . But without the bullseye mount on the 125 it a different story this gun will do some damage to even spring rated scopes.

I use a mat. My old one was like that. But I found that it was too slow to wrap the gun up between lanes, so I stored the gun in a hard case instead.

For a seat, I started with a bucket, but now try to sit on the ground for most shots. If I'm shooting Hunter Division, I still carry a bucket for shots that are hard to see over the weeds. And for Open/WFTF, I have a turkey seat (modified and 5.5" high) in order to get additional elevation on the more difficult to see targets.

I've shot in all AAFTA Divisions, but I never used a bum bag, shooting jacket, or harness. Use what ever works for you (and is legal per Division rules).
