Field Target Tech Episode 18 Marauder/Challenger Update, Team USA

In this Episode of Field Target Tech I try to get the Marauder going, only to abandon further testing due to low shot count, need to change some more parts. Challenger at 55 yards shows real promise, and Team USA info, links, and scores as they are available when competition begins.

I cannot believe his Marauder is giving him such fits. It smells like a lost/blown bolt O-Ring, a collapsed transfer port (if plastic), or lost O-Ring on his metal transfer port. His other airgun is certainly shooting sweet.

I have a mish mash of parts in the gun at the moment, from my own doing. I know how to get it back, I have a lighter than normal valve spring in it, and an oversize transfer port. I also have a lighter, shorter than normal hammer spring in it, which was to give no preload on the valve at rest after the shot. I change those 3 things, and I'll be fine. I had a ton of aftermarket parts in it from Hill, and it was great on air, but unfortunately, the cycle of the shot was too slow. The pellet was accelerating in the barrel very slow, the skirt of the pellet was barely blowing out. I wanted a faster, snappier shot, and when changing the parts to achieve this, I only changed SOME of them, when I should've changed all of them. I'll have it up and running properly this week, I'm pretty confident of that. I'm like a mad scientist when it comes to tinkering with a Marauder.....

The mods I did on the Challenger were minimal. I enlarged the transfer port to just short of .90, i believe. The next thing that you MUST do, is to replace the screws that hold the valve in the tube. The material of the tube is the exact same as the 1720T tube. The 1720T holds 3000 psi, whilst the Challenger is only supposed to handle 2000. It can only handle 2000 due to the round head screws holding the valve in place. If those screws are not changed, the extra 1000 psi could cause the valve screws to go under the tube, and cause the valve to be jammed in the tube forever, as well as enlarging it, causing permanent damage that cannot be fixed. Replace those 3 screws with allen cap head screws that stand at a proud 90 degree angle to the tube. You will have to inlet the stock in order for the stock to fit back on.

I also added a Huma regulator set from the factory. Don't know what it is set for pressure wise.

I don't remember if I replaced the hammer spring or not, I believe I did not.

Basically, that's all I did to it.
