Field Targets !

I decided I wanted to make a complete field target course and I have a friend that has a business that has a water jet machine that will cut through 1" steel plate.....................so I did a run of 24 to see how they would turn out ........and...............

Your friend did a fantastic job. How did you design the mechanism so that the target locks when hit on the face plate, and falls down with the appropriate force hit on the paddle.

I copied a basic design and drew it on a design program including the face plates ,bases and KZ paddle, then I did a prototype to get the paddle to fall at the right amount of force .....a 12 ft kB gun (my Steyr WFTF gun) hitting a target at 55 yards still needs to fall., but also withstands 32 ft lbs from my .22 theoben.

The steel is 11 Guage ,plenty to stand of to 32 ft fpe without denting . Field target is limited to .20fpe. Yes obviously 4 is not enough . First run was 24, will have 50 in total for a true WFTF course . Takes a winch to pull them up attached to a 1 hp motor !!! ............just kidding , some Dacron line attaches, one little tug and up they come.....assembly line.......

​Do they fall flat parallel to the ground?
We had problems with elevated tree targets being hard to pull up. The solution was to add a rigid 2-3" extension to the bolt-string attachment. Or add a prop behind the paddle to prevent it from falling completely flat.

No they don’t fal flat, going o out one up high in a tree once it stops raining........lol

should pull up easily, also has a spring mechanism to help make it easier to pull up and also prevent false rattle downs

I made these targets because there just didn't seem to be a source for a well made, simple, yet durable target. They need to be able to fall when a 12 ft lb gun hits them at 55 yards and yet stand up to a 20 fpe hit on the faceplate without falling.The WFTF site says they should fall at 5.5 fpe.....I test then with my Feinwerkbau 300.....@ 20 yards .......shoots 7.87 @ 590fps ...5.88 fpe .close enough

​Great work on the targets. I use my FWB 300 with 8.4 grain AA Field pellets as well but at 55 yards to test my targets. It's good that your targets don't fall flat and have the extension arm for the string.

I will try shooting tomorrow with my chronograph set up @ 55 yards just in front of a target.....hopefully will get close to the 561fps with the 7.87 to get the 5.5 fpe

make all kz the same approx 2-1/4" then have reducers down to 1/4" that way can have different troyer set ups just an Idea. I bought mine from dick otten and his have that insert reducer Rhino targets

Hey Ben, yes Dick definitely makes some nice targets, in fact I Have one of his. ...I wanted to keep mine simple like WFTF ,40mm and then two reducers down to 25mm and 15mm........part of the 

course, then goes into the woods, some downhill on the front section
