Filling a Air Venturi tank at a scuba shop. Need help.

Just a word of caution. I work at a dive shop and fill tanks. Some of the shops around here will fill from the whip using something like the adapter in the photo below. Most, but not all of these fittings have a service rating of 3200psi.

This is only one example of several different configurations that may be used. Many are "pieced together" from parts attained from air system parts supply companies (We use Global Scuba Mfg, an excellent company), and were never intended to be used with boost systems (pressures exceeding 3000spi).

If the shop is filling to 4500psi, these fill adapters can be extremely dangerous. Albeit not your responsibility (legally), from a moral standpoint It might be wise to ask the shop owner if their adapters are rated accordingly.

Sorry if this is blatantly obvious, but I had no idea about any of this until I started filling HP cylinders.

Be safe!
Cheers

"Tazhunter0"Took tank to shop that is close to work to get filled. They could not fill it because they do not have the correct one. Can someone please let me know what I need to get so I can get this filled.

Thanks for the help.

Would you happen to know what connection the shop currently have so we could point you in the right direction? Every shop seem to be different.

Tazhunter0,

Unfortunately, this is completely normal. When a tank is filled the air in the tank heats up; this is true even when you are filling from a large storage tank and not using a compressor. When your newly filled tank cools down to room temp, the pressure drops (google Boyle's law for the physics). If possible, its best to leave a tank at the shop overnight, and have them top off the next day. You will still get a pressure drop even then, but it will be much smaller.

This is what I was using. I'll probably put it up for sale since I don't need it anymore. This was for filling from an SCBA system (not SCUBA). For a scuba system you would need a different end piece.

I'm not very familiar with SCUBA but, I think this is what you would need in place of the threaded piece I have shown on my fill system. Essentially, turning the fill line end into the same thing that's on the top of a SCUBA tank.
