Finish the sentence. I would have more airguns if...

2- If everyone (private party sales) accepted money orders for payment.

This is a problem? I guess many today don't even understand paper checks, but they refuse that for payment prior to shipping?

You got it and funny thing some of the sellers end up getting paid even less than what I would have paid after reducing the price of their guns after no other interest and I don't believe in lowballing.

Funniest thing is I PM the sellers a week or 2 later stating the money orders would have already cleared a while ago and still won't take Money order even after I say I'm willing to wait till it clears.

Good news on the flip side many first time sellers just send the guns after I give then shipping information even before I buy the money orders to send. Same with repeat sellers too.

Money orders can be faked. This is actually a common scam among people buying dogs. They get your dog with a fake money order and then it's gone forever and sold to a lab for experimentation, dissection, etc. The cruelest fate you can imagine. An adult dog takes a lot of time and effort to raise. Even puppies of purebreds and other breeds are often bizarrely expensive. They sell well to labs.

The buyer gives you a fake check and passes your dog/puppy on to a horrific fate. Well known scam. Don't be surprised or feel miffed if others know about such things and are wary of its application to other "products."

If .....

I did not already possess air guns that covered every spectrum of my personal requirements of pleasure, hunting or competition already, covering .177, .22, 25 & .30 calibers.

I'm wondering if someone in your position ever gets bored, excited with new airgun technology or is just content.

I do ... and have been involved with much R&D / evolving tech behind the scenes. NONE of my guns are stock ... all self tweaked.

...the money orders would have already cleared...

That's the kicker. They can wait for it to clear or go cash it.

People today don't fully understand banking or even endorsement chains and how they work. Sadly this is even true in the bank branches. Branch managers here are hired because of their retail experience, not banking experience. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have had to force the local branch to call downtown to prove to them what I am requesting actually can be done.

It is true that money orders can be faked. So can checks, and cashier's checks. That's why banks hold funds until the instrument clears. If you need your money faster, you can ask your banker to send the check for collection. That's not as necessary today as it was back before the digital age.

Another scam that psychologists get often is someone out of state prepaying by the month for sessions for their kid. The check arrives, we deposit it, and then right away they allegedly have to be put into an in-patient treatment facility and thank you for working with me, but could you send me my check back. Of course the one they sent first is never going to clear.

I would take a money order any day. Especially one I can take to the USPS and covert to cash money on the spot. Cash is king.

I'd have more airguns if I didn't have 8 furbabies plus one cat to support. All but 1 dog and the cat are special needs and cost about 20% of our income. Then if there's a vet bill like the one we had just 3 months ago for almost $3K that makes buying food kind of hard. Luckily we had some money set aside. Their our kids now so we take care of them but over the last 45 years we've spent enough on our fur babies to buy a house! 😵

DesertSilver,

I feel your pain. We're all animal people in my house and office. Everyone brings the dogs to work. Back in my law enforcement days I was K-9,and those German Shepherds were like my kids. Today there are therapy animals roaming the halls in the office. We all use a large, state of the art VCA Medical Center over here. We joke that it's like U.T. Southwestern for animals. You'll get the greatest care ever, but the bills are going to hurt. At the end of the day though, you know you've given them the best care possible. Hat's off to you, sir.

I only had a place to store them safely.

I would have more airguns if I had a brick and mortar store where I could actually walk in, pick my poison of the moment, and walk back out with it in my grubby little hands. Otherwise I can usually fight the addiction off for a few months at a time before I have to order a new gun off the internet and wait for several more months for it to get to me.

Exactly how I feel.
