Everyone’s got their preferred methods to the madness of sorting, but I’m curious as to why the talk about head sizing AFTER sorting for weight? I wash, dry, head size first, then weight sort, then lube and label. If there is a better method to head sizing after weighing in all ears.
Two days ago I just finished 1500 of the jsb Mk2 Heavy’s in 25 cal, and earlier in February completed almost 2000 of the same and also 1800 of the 22 cal MRD’s, then did 900 of 30 caliber as I was getting low. So 6,200 in the last month snd a half. Rainy days brings out the sorting in me.
For head size sort I just grab whatever empty tins I have and label with masking tape.
For the actual sorting by weight I bought like a pack of 24 tins from amazon, and thru trial and error came up with so many I need for 25 cal, so many for 30, 22, etc. so the tins get labeled for caliber, and the reason why is on the inside sidewall of the tin I have the brand and weight listed with electrical tape. Like 25 cal as an example I have 6 tins set aside just for 25 cal as when I sort the JSB MK2 Heavy’s I get up to 6(sometimes 8, but on average 6) different weights!
So if I’m sorting say my favorite hunting pellet, the H&N barracuda hunter extremes, I spin the tins so all weight size labels facing me say HN BHE. If the next day I sort JSB MK2 Heavy’s, I spin the tin so that brand and its weights face me.
So each tin is labeled caliber specific, and within each of those I have up to three different manufacturer types of Ammo, and I just spin the tin so the label faces me.
I also stagger my tins so I don’t make the mistake of accidentally tossing a 34.1g pellet into the 33.6g tin. The staggering forces me to check.
When I’m all done, the sorted batches get lubed on paper plates, then dropped into their labeled tins.
So using the 25 cal MK2 Heavy’s as an example, in head sizes of 6.37, 6.38, and 6.39, each of those have only the three different weights I keep- 33.9-34.0, 34.1-34.2, 34.3-34.4.
The rest become washed and lubed plinker ammo
