First blood with the new ‘Dakota’mini sniper build - I wouldn’t have a chance without Penny!

Today was the first day above freezing in a long time. I expected some activity. That said, most of the squirrels are now dead.

Penny took off running about 100 yards in front of me and signals she has a squirrel in the tree. So I started running. A good foot of loose snow doesn’t make it very easy.

As I get closer I can see she has two huge fox squirrels treed . They start trying to come down the tree, So I start yelling to cause commotion. And I get Penny barking. One of them looks around assesses the situation and does a running leap from over 25 feet in the air. I’ve never seen anything like it. I am nicknaming him Reacher NMI. He got away. Penny went after him to no avail. I had to call her back to help me.

These guys are the last of the tribe, true survivors. I’m trying to get a shot at the squirrel and he keeps going around the tree and keeping the tree between him and I. Sometimes Patience is a virtue. So I stand still and wait for Penny to come help. She really doesn’t know how to do it, but she does it by accident. Eventually I get a look at the squirrel. First blood!

It weighs around 6 pounds scoped. I made it for myself for Christmas. It’s a true Frankenstein. Thoughts 💭? Opinions? Mike

Love seeing your adventures with Penny. We had to put my wife's dog of 18 years down last year and it's been extremely hard on her. Hoping we can get a new pup here soon.
