Hey Guys,
My first Coyote! I decided to go out in 18F weather with my New AEA HP MAX in .357. Right from the start, I started seeing signs of Coyote. I notice they had been feeding on a deer carcass and I saw many sets tracks on the creek bottom.
Since I had a light & close range gun, I wanted to find the den and sit at the mouth of it until one stuck its head out. So, I tracked I coyote to a steep rock face over a 45 degree angle. I figured the den was close by, but I felt it was getting too dangerous. I did not was to risk a fall or a broken ankle so I tried to find a den at lower elevations. After a couple hours, I gave up and decided to head down to the creek again and call one in at dusk. After a much longer time seting up than expected I was ready to go.
With the sun setting at my back, wind from 4-10 o'clock 3-4mph, after 20min of calling, I saw something on the ridge. I activated my camera, but nothing showed. I search for thr movement again but saw nothing, so I shut off the camera.
After 30 seconds, boom, a coyote ran up to the call at full speed. I tuned the camera on, hit record. and tried to zoom but my cold fingers did not activate the zoom. I decided to shoot anyway (I figured the small picture could be manually zoom up later). I hit the coyote in the lower neck or chest. It dropped immediately and racked another round but the magazine shattered in the cold. I took the mag out and the pellets fell to the snow. I pick one pellet out of the snow, and reloaded. This time my fingers were able to zoom the screen in the phone, so I put another shot into it.
All in all, it was successful, but the first shot was not captured due the camera unable to adjust to the small screen. No regrets, just happy I got the coyote
