Theoben First day of testing the .22 Theoben Evolution

I finally got my probe to tweek the piston pressure in yesterday. I bumped it up so it was throwing the 15.89gr JSBs at 600fps/12.9ftlbs last night but before I got a chance to shoot more than a group it got too dark out. Today was the day though! Little bit of a breeze but no more that 5 mph.

Average group at 35yds was a little disappointing at 0.7" but I did choke on a few shots so I'll give the gun the benefit of the doubt some. I'll use the excuse that I'm working on finding the right hold and definitely need to get used to the trigger too. Aside from that, this gun is an absolute dream to shoot. It cocks easy, its very quiet, and the shot cycle is just a quick but gentle snap. Im pretty sure I saw every shot I took fly through the air and land on target.

Tomorrow I'll be testing a better assortment of ammo. We'll see how the lighter JSBs, FTTs, and CPs do. I'm also very curious to see how the Norma pellets manage. Those have been very suprising in quite a few guns already.

That's not bad. Velocity is pretty consistent. Thats a good sign. Do you have an idea how much ram pressure?
Not really. I'm not 100% positive that my probe was sealing properly and I was afraid to tighten it down any more that I already did. It would pump up and then gradually lose pressure so I was giving it fast strokes to get the pressure to hover right around 1000psi. My chrono results at that pressure were around 14.5fpe with the Exacts. I didn't count but I took probably 8 or so jabs at the schrader before it settled in to where it is now.

I don't think that's too bad a all for the first day out. I've had a lot of Theoben gas rams and triggers, they like to be shot a lot and broken in plus a learning curve just in general...that is a beautiful Theoben may not have been shot much. Just shoot it and enjoy the familiarization period my bet is you'll be driving tacks in a few sessions. My Theoben .22s liked JSB 14.35s...like some more pictures of the other side...awesome piece of kit as the Brits would say. Nice scope too!

Good to know. I don't have any of the 14.3s but I'll get some coming. I honestly didn't even know JSB made them. I do have some of the 13.4s though so I can at least give them a go tomorrow. I'll grab some more pics then too

Wow she's pretty! They absolutely do shoulder well. The first time I picked mine up I couldn't believe how light it felt in my hands.

I'm jealous of the SLR you have. I'd love to get my hands on a nice one but that's going to require a lot of good luck and being in the right place at the right time it seems. Hopefully one day 🤞
