This morning wanted to shoot some gongs but it is getting boring to shoot the same groups at the same distances with the same results. So I wanted to stretch it a bit. I hanged a gong onto a tree branch and then measured it at 144 meter (157 yard). Shooting with the Artemis M22 and H&N Baracuda 18 pellets. As I was shooting other pellets before this over the weekend and adjusted the hammer spring for that, it measured average 957fps. I did not have the screw driver with me so decided to shoot just like that. I first adjusted the speed in Strelok and then confirmed zero at 50m and 100m. Then on to the 144 meter dong. I Aimed at the centre of gong, I could not see the X's. First shot there was light wind whirling in different directions, ping, then it died down and two more shots, ping-ping. The wind picked up a lot and while waiting I first wanted to go to look where it hit as I could not see it through the scope and the shade of the tree on the dong.

Here it is and I am quite happy with the results with this cheap rifle. The first shot was low, I blame it on the wind. :sneaky:Obvious, how else? The wind is now blowing harder and harder so I will wait for calm air before trying again.

Edit: You can see the pellet hit the gong at an angle as the plate is not facing my shooting position straight on but at an angle.

Nice shooting. I think a little shout out to Strelok, your gun and ammo and you is in order. Great job .

How big is your plate, and what are your average groupings at 50yds?

While raining I took the opportunity to de-prime about 300 x 9mm cases for reloading.

It stopped raining but it was almost dark, I could just make out the 144m plate under the trees and out came the pcp. Through the scope I could see better. The first shot was a miss but when I immediately looked at the bubble level I had the rifle canted way to the right. Leveled it and shot another 10 shots. 8 hits and 2 misses. Just as I came into the house it started to rain again so I could not go to look at the results.

This morning I was first doing things one do in and around the house. Just now I went to see what the target of yesterday late afternoon looked like.
First picture is showing the plate at the angle I see from my shooting position. The branch it is hanging from is not square to my line of sight. I took this picture after spraying the plate.

The next picture is actually the first picture I took with the shots showing and the photograph was taken from almost straight on.
The 3 shots marked with black pen was the first 3 I showed previously.
The ones circled in red are the ones I shot before dark. I did a correction calculation to compensate for the angle.
There were 9 hits, I thought it was only 8.

Distance 144 meter - light breeze
Corrected group size = 83 mm = 1.98 MOA
Corrected group area = 53mm (W) x 67mm (H)

Not as good as the high end pcp's but for this cheapy it is OK, I think. I will NOT try to shoot pigeons at that distance with it but the plate target is dead already.

Man-O-Man. I am starting to like this pcp thing more and more. If it goes on like this, one of these days I am going to sell the house and life in a tent to buy a high end pcp. :sneaky:

Shot this after sunset when the wind was only a breeze as during the day here was to much wind. When I came back home after going to take the photograph it was to dark to see the target from here. 12 Shots. This time I took the photograph at the angle as I see it from home.

Good to read! You'd likely get better groups in day light!

Through the scope I could still see the target quite well, so I don't know. I think this is about the limit for this rifle with pellets. That does not mean I will not keep on trying when there is no wind, I might just get a lucky group that might not be easily repeatable.

What I did not mention before is that the pellets was sorted by head size. Next time I will sort by head size as well as weight to see if that helps. As I see it, sorting pellets does not make the main group smaller but helps reducing the flyers.

You could also try the heavier 21gr barracudas, some of the new jts pellets

Funny, I did receive some of both. H&N 21.14gr and JTS 18.13gr.
I did not try it yet as now at 5:30 in the afternoon it is 32 deg. Celsius (90 deg Fahrenheit) and humidity in the high 70%. It was about 34 deg C earlier. Just going outside for 5 minutes and I am sweating like a pig. I do this for enjoyment and don't want to punish myself by walking 400 meters back and forth to the targets as I cannot walk in a straight line to it. I have camps for the horses and zebras I have to walk through. The wind is not to strong and would otherwise be a good day for shooting.
