First Look At The DNT ThermNight TNC335R & TNC635R

Well the time has come for the next version of the ThermNight line. Introduce the ThermNight 335R and 635R the next iteration of the multispectral lineup which can be used Day Time Night Time Any Time. These have some great improvements from the previous model the TNC225R. I have been testing digital scopes for a long time. The zulus was the winner after years of testing for its clarity, compact size and features. The zulus is a great bang for the buck and was my go to optic for day/night pesting with LRF, IR, and ballistics.

ThermNight Line

Next came the ThermNight TNC225R it has all the same great features the zulus has with the addition of a thermal built into the same unit. This has taken the spot for my most used optic for pesting and for good reason. I use the thermal side to scan in the main window and once I see the opportunity I swap the image so the main image is now digital. While in digital you get that clear image and identification of the pests your after. The main benefits of a multispectral scope is being able to spot the targets with the thermal side fast and have the option to switch to the digital side to identify said animal. Thermal will help spot animals behind brush leaves and branches and it does an amazing job at it but what it cant do is see the branches that might deflect a shot and that's where the digital will shine.

What will you see on the 335R and 635R thats different from the 225R? The easiest to spot will be the step up from a 256 Thermal to a 384 and 640 for enhanced clarity. What you gain from the higher resolution thermal senors is the ability to see animals cleary and have a higher chance of being able to take a shot on the thermal channel now. Enhanced digital day and night clarity as well as a round screen on the digital side. Built in 64GB storage, and 10 Zeroing Profiles

Upgraded to a 21700 flat top battery to extend run time in the field.

Next you will see a larger IR emitter since the battery tube is larger, LRF and Image swap works just as well as the 225R but in a different layout.

You will also see an upgraded LRF in sleek compact package with user selectable settings.
The Selectable options are Continuous Ranging, Single Pulse Ranging, Timed Ranging 3s, Timed Ranging 5s, Timed Ranging 10s.

You will also see an upgrade to the zoom wheel. This new design is a throw lever style which allows the use of gloves in colder weather and just an overall better grip to magnify.

Auto wake up is a great new feature for those that don't like to put their unit in standby mode manually.
All you need to do is activate it in the menu, once on while you are looking through the scope it will function as normal. You move away and the sensor sees nothing and will automatically go into standby, move back into the sensor's view and the scope wakes up automatically without having to press a button.

The eye relief has been extended from 45mm to 65mm allowing the user to be farther away from the unit while still having a clear view of the screen.

The distance from the LRF is now displayed on the right of the screen as well as the option to see the ballistic correction. You have a choice of MIL, MOA, or INCHES or CM.

Improved gyroscope readout in the bottom of the screen. User friendly and easier to read allowing you to check to see if you are level before a shot. New menu options which allow you to change the reticle without the having to go into the zeroing menu.

Next is one of my favorites, a feature called Thermal Zoom Lock. This allows the user to lock the thermal image when in PIP it can be locked at its base magnification of 2.5X or 1X allowing the user to magnify the digital image and keeping the full FOV of the Thermal. By enabling this feature even if your main image is on the Thermal it will not magnify the image allowing the user to zoom the digital image in the PIP to take the shot if needed.

Another great added feature is now while in dial in mode you have the option to turn on the correction units to show your reticle has moved.

Both the 335R and the 635R will come in a nice hard carry case which will hold everything which will include 2 flat top 21700 batteries, a charger, 0moa mount and a 20moa long mount.

With these added benefits it has added a little weight to the overall package but still very reasonable for everything that is included.
The 225R comes in at 28.64OZ with battery and rail, the 335R/635R comes in at 32.98OZ

Im curious how much better the day/night vision is? It’s my understanding it’s the same camera but an upgraded OLED display. Ive seen something that said a 10% increase in resolution, although im sure it looks better. How is the sensitivity of the thermal? I figure I would probably use it more as a detection device and use the day/night as the primary shooting optic. They are priced well, debating if it’s worth the $800 difference.

I don't know the math but it is a definite increase from the 225R into the 335R, what you gain by going to the 635R is better thermal image because of the 640 thermal, digital side with be the same as the 335R. I will try and get more side by side footage after the new year.
