First Shot Blues

I almost ALWAYS miss on the first shot of the card!

It's really in my head at this point. 24 X's after that though.

RAW TM1000 shooting JSB Monsters 4.55 head size at approx 780fps at 20 yards indoors.

Why always the first shot? Could it be that the regulator is leaking overnight, and after the first shot, the second shot comes long before the reg can leak enough to make any difference? Why not waste the first shot into a sandbag or something and then take your second shot at the first bull and see what happens. In any event....damn fine shooting!

AA, that was a particular lot that had about 90% 4.55 head size in them. My poly barrel likes the 4.55's best.
780 fps with the monsters is just how Martin set it up. this is with the HS all the way back flush with the stock. I can tighten the HS and get up to 55 more fps out of it if I need/want to. My rifle shoots the monsters the best with the HS in about 7 turns, which is about 805 - 810 fps. I just keep the HS backed out all the way while practicing so I can get two cards out of one fill. With 7 turns in, I can't get two cards out of a fill.

Beeman, I shoot 5 sighters before I go to the score targets. At this point, I'm pretty sure it's just in my mind. The rifle is fine. Doesn't happen all the time, but often enough for it to be a drag. When it happens shooting in the basement is one thing, in competition, it's another!!

Dick, that was 20 yards. (wish it was 25!) But I'm making an extension. One wall of the basement is studded, so I cut a hole in it and am putting a 16' long, 16" diameter galvanized tube out to a box that will hold the target, back stop and a light. The electic cord will run through the pipe. And, wa la, I've got an "indoor" 25 yard range.
