First squirrel with my .22 HW50S

I'm going to preface this post by saying that I normally would not have taken this shot but the conditions were basically perfect. I had just zeroed this scope, there was no wind, and I had the home field advantage.

Anyway, for those doubting the capabilities of 12ftlb rifles on the other thread, this shot was taken with my 12ftlb HW50S .22 using a 14.66gr FTT @ a hair over 600fps. He was standing roughly 5yds behind my 50yd target and a bit off to the side of the range. I doped him at 55yds and let one rip. The pellet caught him between the eye and ear and immediately slumped him from his branch. No pass through and barely even a twitch when he hit the dirt.View attachment 315734View attachment 315735

Agreed! Easy to cock, quieter, easier to shoot well, lighter to carry, and they still take most small game absolutely fine (within reason).

For all that shoot squirrels I'm just curious I'm assuming its to eat. I've never had squirrel what's it taste like??? Let me guess??

Slightly nutty chicken is probably the best description I've heard. Toss the legs in buffalo sauce and they look and taste virtually indistinguishable from chicken wings. We call them Buffalo Sqwings

I'll add it's almost completely fat free meat, so if you don't cook it right it'll be terrible. My wife cooks them low and slow with fat added (usually from bacon) and it ends up like pulled pork. Then we add it to whatever needs meat. I think she's making squicken pot pie today (name credit to Sqwirlfugger57).
