First squirrel with my .22 HW50S

I'm going to preface this post by saying that I normally would not have taken this shot but the conditions were basically perfect. I had just zeroed this scope, there was no wind, and I had the home field advantage.

Anyway, for those doubting the capabilities of 12ftlb rifles on the other thread, this shot was taken with my 12ftlb HW50S .22 using a 14.66gr FTT @ a hair over 600fps. He was standing roughly 5yds behind my 50yd target and a bit off to the side of the range. I doped him at 55yds and let one rip. The pellet caught him between the eye and ear and immediately slumped him from his branch. No pass through and barely even a twitch when he hit the dirt.

Phenomenal shot! I do prefer my Sub 12 guns in .177, but I can’t argue with those results!!
Same here but when this one popped up in the classifieds at a great price I couldn't say no. I also have a .22 HW35E that has been pretty fantastic too. I usually limit them to 35-40yds because they are REALLY loopy shooters but they do suprisingly well at 50yds still.

I can’t believe you missed his eye, yet you still posted that picture…You need to pick it up a little bit next time.

I absolutely love it when a guy shows what a springer can do! I also love it when a good plan comes to fruition. Especially when it’s a brand new gun and you make a special shot like that. You’ll never forget it.

It’s about shot placement, not power. When I picked up my 124 in 1980 from B&B supply, I knew I would be taking eye 👁 shots, not head shots.

Congrats 🎉

Haha I'm not quite minute of eyeball with this gun yet but I'm trying. This is one of the few guns I have that requires a good artillery hold by the books. She is sensative!

I agree about the springer posts though. I always have to click on them when I see them pop up. Some of these guys (you in particular!) do some pretty amazing things with your springers. It always makes me smile to see them.

Somebody would say that's a perfect shot. I'm that somebody.

55 yards is further than id shoot a springer with confidence, Well done!

I used to get squirrels with a 10 fpe 2250 on co2, just wouldn't push the distance past 30.
I agree. That shot placement is my old faithful. Enough room for error forward and back and if I hold high its just a complete miss with no injury/runoff.

That was a great shot and very well placed. German springers have always had a special place in my heart and collection, this is where it started with me almost 40 years ago. The HW50 and by all standards an excellent, well built springer that's up for the task if the shooter is and you just proved that! Thanks for sharing with great pictures as well!
