Brocock/BRK First Things First OR Keeping the Cart Behind the Horse

I have a BRK Ghost Plus (Blaze) .22 incoming in the next couple of days from AoA. This will be the most I've paid for an airgun.. ..ever. I have owned several that were close to that price point and have a high regard for all things Daystate/BRK so I expect a very high quality experience. Several have indicated I will.

I've never asked this question before, so here goes.... my purpose by the way is hunting tree squirrels, mostly grey here in KY. Oh, if a squirrel notices the blaze color I will flap my hand and bark hoping the beast will think me a squirrel, :cool:

What should I do before shooting the air rifle?

  • I know with rimfires I clean the barrel and bolt to make sure no gunk build up.
  • Once I begin shooting I'll sight in scope. The scope will likely be a Nikon Pro with AO (out of production - I have 3).
  • Then I'll try 2-3 different pellets that I have on hand; JSB and Hades to see if one groups better than another. I'll do this first at 25. yards and then 50.

Should I be watching reg pressure and bottle pressure? I will check both before shooting and I'll top off with my GX 3-i compressor if necessary.

I'm hoping to shoot it without a moderator but I have a DFL RYU that I'll sill try out (.25) to see if it makes a difference.

If I have indicated any thing that is ill-advised or that I should also do, I'd appreciate the input.

I am loving the Ghost! I have the plus version in .22 and have a DonnyFL RYU suppressor on it. The rifle fits in the case that comes with it with a scope and the RYU in place. I haven't stretched shooting it past 40 yards yet, but It is very accurate. I'm shooting the 25.39 Hades at 909 FPS.

I had a traditional scope on it to begin with, one with the most beautiful glass you can get. However, I have a Zulus 3x12 on it now. I don't have all the features of the Zulus figured out yet, for instance I haven't used the video function yet which is the main reason I bought it. I think the Zulus is very cool, but right now I probably like my Immersion 10x40 better which is on my Taipan Vet 2 for the clarity and field of view.

There is nothing about the Ghost that I don't like. I wouldn't even trade it for a Steyr Hunter Auto-5 which I used to own and was my favorite airgun at that time. I could see me getting another barrel kit for the Ghost because I love the "wallop" sound I get from the .25 Taipan when it hits a target!

I have had zero issues with the Ghost. Mine is the orange version which I like, but a nice Moss Green would be cool, but not offered. The only thing I might like better with the Ghost would be an air tube instead of a bottle.

Did you work the trigger? That’s the one thing I hated about it out of the box. If you didn’t yet you’re in for a treat since you can make it sooo much better than the stock trigger. Franklink has a guide on here how to do it since he is the ghost GOAT, super easy to follow and it’s not complicated. If you want a cheaper and better (at least in my ghost) pellet than the hades, try AEA 25gr. Shooting like a laser and at close to 50fpe squirrels will not know whether it was a hollow point or not…
